Just for grins because we know it will never happen.

Based on Las Vegas odds for Salary Cap
2024 NFL Cap - $256,000,000
2023 Cowboy Rollover Cap - $10,801,968
2024 Cowboy Cap - $266,801,968
2024 Cowboy Contracts with Current Dead Money - $264,365,953

If Dallas wants to trade Dak, first they have to get him to agree to a trade. For the sake of this mock, I am going to say he agrees to be traded to Atlanta who frankly would be the team that most wants a QB with the roster they have and probably would fit what the new coach be it Belichick or Harbaugh or Vrabel or Johnson.

So Dallas trades Dak to Atlanta for 1st in 2024, 1st in 2025, 4th/5th in 2024 and 4th in 2025. If you check the values by the so-called experts on QB trades and especially Dak value according to the NFL, it is a little under what they would get.

So now comes the other part which is getting under the cap for 2024. So here is what I would do.
  1. Traded Dak Prescott (DAL) to Atlanta for #8, #43, 4th, 5th in 2024 and 1st 2025.
    (Saved: $-2,460,000)
  2. Released Michael Gallup after June1st designation
    (Saved: $9,500,000)
  3. Restructured Trevon Diggs
    (Saved: $8,956,000)
  4. Restructured Terence Steele
    (Saved: $5,706,000)
  5. Restructured Donovan Wilson
    (Saved: $2,408,075)
  6. Restructured Malik Hooker
    (Saved: $651,963)
  7. Released Israel Mukuamu
    (Saved: $1,055,000)
  8. Released Josh Ball
    (Saved: $1,055,000)
  9. Released Nahshon Wright
    (Saved: $1,227,667)
  10. Released Cooper Rush
    (Saved: $2,250,000)
  11. Released Leighton Vander Esch
    (Saved: $2,147,055)
  12. Extend CeeDee Lamb
    (Saved: $5,147,055)
This makes the QB Trey Lance for 2024.

In free agency, would sign Derrick Henry to a 2 yr contract and Tony Pollard to a 3 yr deal, both at rough $5 million a year type. Probably sign a LB, CB, DT in 3 week of free agency.

That should leave us roughly $22,496,00 in cap space.

#8 Joe Alt OT Notre Dame - Should be LT for next 10 years
#24 Nate Wiggins CB Clemson - can play outside and inside slot
#43 T'Vondre Sweat DT1/NT Texas - big body, good run stopper
#56 Edgerrin Cooper OLB Texas A&M - fast, good cover and good run stopper
#88 Zak Zinter OG/OC Michigan - can play all 5 positions on OL but should be a great OC
4th Junior Colson ILB Michigan - should be a guy that can take over for LVE
5th Frank Gore Jr. RB Southern Miss - seems like a chip off the old block of his Dad
6th comp Jordan Washington WR Texas
6th comp Joe Milton III QB Tennessee
7th Sundiata Anderson Edge Grambling St
7th Michael Wiley RB Arizona

Not sure you'd get that all for Dak. A 1st and 2nd (you said #43) this year (and basically most of Atlanta's 2024 draft) and then another first next year?

I mean, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

You seem fixated on Joe Alt.

You’re also banking a lot on Trey Lance.

Your reign as GM would be a short one.

The problem with every one of these trade scenarios is that they do not have a realistic option at QB. You've built an offense that can't throw the ball. Basically traded Dak to Atlanta to become Atlanta.

I think if you are trading Dak, that signals a rebuild and you give Lance a year to see if he has anything (which he probably does not have much). Load up on picks with an eye to 2025 draft or you see how the draft unfolds this year and if a QB drops that you like, you pounce. If not, then I'd be fine with Alt or Fashanu at 8. I am willing to eat a season to try to fix the QB spot if that's how they were to proceed.

I mean it's all meaningless anyway. Jerry is gonna extend Dak and tie him to this franchise for another 3-4 years.

I think they will resign Dak but the Cowboys are going to want some type of discount from him. The Cowboys actually have the narrative behind them this time unlike in 2021. I mean if you are the Joneses are you going to pick Dak over Parsons and CeeDee. I hope Jerry, Jerry Jr. and Stephen understand that CeeDee and Parsons want record breaking contracts. I don’t think it’s smart to pay all three (Dak, CeeDee, and Parsons)

Yes, I'd trade Dak to restart the window without a high cap figure QB, and try to build an exceptional team around a young QB in those 4 to 5 years.

I'm concerned Dak will be a statue in 3 to 4 years with a huge cap number.

That's probably what they said about the Hershal Walker Trade by Jimmy.
That was pre Internet. That team was god awful and needed a huge talent infusión. I dont remember the press saying it was a bad idea, never felt that way myself. Obviously it was the right call.

Atlanta is a good target for a Dak trade
Talented offensive unit with no QB
Daks main issue is with expectations/pressure to win championships.

In Atlanta Dak wouldn't have that pressure like in Dallas to win Superbowls. Sure every team wants to win but some teams just don't have that pressure. Dak could play free and most likely dominate that division.

What happens to JLew and Gilly in you're hypothetical situation here?

You're releasing 2 CBs and if those 2 don't sign that's 5 CBs released and only drafting one and "probably" some random st CB in week 3.

Numbers aren't adding up here at that spot alone

Like I said at the start, don't believe Dallas would even entertain a trade for Dallas. Really, if I'm Dak and hold all the cards as he does, I wouldn't consider any team but Atlanta. And now with R. Morris hired as a HC, really all that Atlanta needs is a good QB.

What value could we really expect for Prescott? Depending on the experts, it is anywhere from a 1st, 2nd in 2024 and 1st in 2025 to 1st and a couple of starting players. Would Atlanta really give up multi picks for Prescott knowing you have to sign him to a big amount of money? Answer is absolutely. Owner wants to win and win now. A rookie QB isn't going to get you there especially now unless you luck out getting another C.J. Stoud. The current weapons Atlanta has on offense with a very good OL and a very good defense and playing in the NFC South says they easily win the South and probably for a few years and get into the playoffs. That would be a huge deal in Atlanta.

How would Dallas handle the salary cap hit? Means a lot of restructuring of existing contracts and new contracts right away for Lamb and Parsons. It also means that if they did do it then they have to believe Trey Lance can be the guy at QB and they would need to do it before having to designate the 5th year option on Lance. So does McCarthy believe in Lance? No one but Jerry and McCarthy have that answer. Would it help the Cowboys? Sure it would especially if you get a great haul of picks where you can fix the OL, DL, LB and CB in the draft's first two days. And hopefully free enough cap to address a real NT and RB in free agency.

Will it happen? With Jerry and Stephen running the show, absolutely NOT. Risks are far to much for them.BUT oh would it be fun threads to talk about and speculate on.

Everything should be on the table IMO. If Atl or anyone else that is QB hungry offers up 3 1s I’m in.
