If you can only fix one, would you fix rushing offense or run D this offseason?

Clearly both are needed. Make your argument!

A strong run game travels, keeps your defense fresh and is able to close out games in that final 4 minute window. Opposing teams will play more aggressive knowing they may not see the football again for long stretches. When this Cowboy team has been most successful over the last 20 years, it's when they had a dominate rushing attack!

I would say improving the D as a whole is my top priority but if I had to pick between these 2 I’d pick stopping the run.

We were able to score all year, even against good teams, with a below average rushing attack.

Any time we played a good O we gave up like 28 PPG…run D being a big piece of that.

I was thinking more on improving the run game.

You can eat up clock and keep the defense on the sideline.

You cannot go wrong either way. I just think it is going to be very challenging fixing both in just one offseason, especially how this front office operates in fa. If you are going to fix their run defense, what is your plan to do so, try to be realistic as possible?

I’d do something like in hopes of fixing both:

FA:

DJ Reader (NT)
Frankie Luvu (LB)
JLew (CB)
Tyron (LT)
Swift (RB
Fowler (DE)

Draft:

Edgerinn Cooper (LB)
Zach Frazier (C)
Braelon Allen (RB)

It’s a bit of a needy type draft, which I’m normally not a fan of, but I’m going all in for a year or 2 as I think it’s our best chance to make a run.

The "D" needs to be the game changer since our offense only goes as far as Dak (game manager). Think 2000 Ravens and Trent Dilfer.

Fix the run defense…. otherwise opponents nickel & dime our defense; control the clock and tire out the defense

Couple of comments:

-As I said recently Reader tore his quad late in the season, not sure if hell be ready until mid-season. What about Leonard Williams?
-What's your thoughts on TB's Devin White? Do like Jewel as a run defender, fa class isn't great at the position. Don't know much about Luvu.
-We are going to need more then Fowler as he is just a pass rusher, we really need a base run DE. Cost in fa shouldn't be much.
-Don't think Swift fits their current run scheme, miscast kind of like Pollard.

AS you can see, will be very challenging to fix both.

offense, the best defense is a strong offense that keeps our defense off the field.

Reader had a similar injury in 2020 and bounced back to be a stud so not really concerned.

Feel White, and Queen have always been vastly overrated. Both are fine being the 2nd guy but would like more of a sure thing. I live in Charlotte so get to watch the Panthers regularly and Luvu flashes every game. Average in coverage, but is a missile against the run and had PFFs highest pass rush grade for LBs this past season.

We have 1 more year of Golston and just drafted Fehoko who was one of the best run defending DEs in CFB that year. This is a light rotation player so hopeful of these is sufficient.

I think a combo of Swift / Allen is an upgrade of what we had last year but feel free to pick another FA if you want better scheme fit.

I’d also hope to see some growth from last year and 22 draft classes.

It’s very, very doable from a financial standpoint but Jerry / Stephen wont.

-No issue with Reader if healthy, he is a legitimate stud. I brought him up last yr, A'Shaun Robinson, he has always been an excellent run defender. Personally, I would like to see more of a 3 man front against the run and still move forward with a hybrid scheme. You need the personnel to switch back and forth. Good point about Fehoko, but Golston hasn't done much since he was drafted.

-I know Queen wasn't considered too highly until R. Smith arrived. White always was an excellent blitzer, but he has been playing behind Vea for most of his career. I will take your opinion about Luvu. Call me crazy, but I want to see multiple linebackers added this offseason as the unit is perhaps the worst on the entire team.

-In my opinion, fixing the run game is just as difficult as fixing their run defense. Need a few personnel upgrades and a new scheme, which we probably won't see next yr with they keep Solari. Starts with adding more talent at the running back position, then getting stronger, more athletic up front and even adding another big receiver. For next season, my best guess will be a mid tier fa RB, another drafted on day 2. Most likely a new starting Center via the draft and Tyron resigned for another season.

I hear ya. Unfortunately I think fixing the run game isn’t as clear a path as fixing the D.

You can try to upgrade C but risk missing and getting worse at the position. You could try to go younger and more athletic at LT but risk missing and getting worse. Upgrading the RBs is easy but the run blocking is just more risky. If you want a FA OLmen you’re probably getting similar play at best.

I do think they can find an upgrade over Badiz right away, same goes with RB, but not at LT.

Almost forces you to go C in 1. I think the top 2 could be upgrades just don’t know if they would be year 1.

Run offense. Control the clock and keep your bad run defense off the field. On the offensive side keep the opposing defenses guessing and wear them out late.

Run Defense. Because Dallas has good CBs, so teams would have to pass into a strength. McCarthy teams don't run the ball well anyway, so draft another really good WR and air raid the league
