Some observers should differentiate between greed and management. Jerry Jones incorporates both, so it is hard for some to do so. And others could not care less to try.
Jones has always been driven to make money. The drive was instilled into him as a child by his business P. T. Barnum-type father (not a joke analogy but what has been documented by sources like 60 Minutes). His money-making prerogative has been transparently clear every... single... day... for anyone following the team since February 25, 1989. Likewise, he is deadly afraid of not having money, as Scott Pelley's interview (one minute, forty seconds) revealed:
That is who the man is. That is who the man was while allowing Jimmy Johnson create a team that won multiple NFL championships. Making money is not Jones' problem.
Jones' problem, his predicament, his dilemma, his issue, is simply that he and his family are not good, qualified managers of football operations. That's it. He can hire as many people to help him run his football team. It does not matter. He and his family still oversee it. He and his family make the final judgments.
Business is still business, no matter what form it takes. Some people are not cut out to be effective managers. And Jones' problem is compounded by the fact he will not replace himself and his family from football operations. It is just that simple.
Finally, his narcissism further compounds his decision-making. He thinks his east-west stadium is a jewel that showcases the sport. That jewel--and everything within for that sport--must be bathe in sunlight. The same brain thinks the sport of boxing--within the same structure--should be shielded from ANY exterior light.
I think some folks' pain for Jones is exacerbated by not seeing the man for who he really is. Yes. He is a greedy <expletive>. Most people are and have always been.
Jones' peers within the NFL are almost or as greedy as him. Greed is not stopping the wiser ones from being more football literate than him. Again, Jones' problem is that he is football operations illiterate.
