I'm afraid Parcells hosed Jerry

This is not a bash Parcells post, and of course this is only my opinion. But Big Bill pretty well hosed Jerry.

Now I don't think Bill did this on purpose or there was some huge meltdown. He just didn't have it in him, and I get it. And though I was one who wanted to see him go he did it a year early in my opinion. Jerry wanted Bill to stay and had planned on it. Jerry's table was set perfect. The Garrett hire was gonna happen w/Bill here anyway. I'll bet that was a Bill and Jerry decision 100%. Bill gets to mentor Garrett into the role, basically picking his heir. If Garrett doesn't quite blossom like Jerry hopes in 2007, Jerry more than likely has his pick of the litter in 08 to be the head coach. If Parcells had stayed through next season I'll lay 10-1 that Smith and Fisher finish out their deals w/their respective teams and don't extend, knowing the Dallas position will be open in 2008. So in 08' the head coaching search could have been: Lovie, Fisher, Cowher, Garrett or even a more seasoned Singletary. Completly worthless and just my 2 cents.

It is true the Jerry did want Parcells back and seemed shocked at his decision. Reports were that Jerry offered more money and more years and Bill still said no. If this is actually true, we will never know.

However, I am glad Parcells is gone. He took the team as far as he could and frankly the Seattle game sealed it for me. No excuses to lose to a team with DBs signed off the freaking street. No excuses at all for one of the worst game plans I have ever seen at any level of competitive football.

If we do go with Turner, Phillips, ect....there is nothing to say we still cant grab Fisher or Cowher next year. The new coach knows he has to win 10-12 games or he is gone.

i agree that the gameplan sucked badly - we threw the ball to T.O. 5 times, we should have gone to T.O. at least 15 times against that beat up secondary and that was a terrible plan.

Yeah everybody focuses on Romo's botched hold and fail to recognize that we did not exploit the glaring weakness of the seahags.

That is on Tuna.

That's my problem. How would Jason have grown because Parcells would have handcuffed the team by not letting his coaches take on their assigned responsibilities. Iam excited for change, and I hope we can improve rather than regress, or we will be wishing that he stayed.

Cowher just moved to NC. He's going to be an east Coast coach next season.
I don't get the fascination with fisher.
Bill did leave one year too early though.;)

As scary as change can be, it is time for one. The team was standing still under BP and there was confusion on both sides of the ball. If the new coach gets off to a bad start, we will hear the "be careful what you ask for" crowd, but I don't think BP had it in him to take this team any further. The dear in headlights look is what did it for me.

Bill bowed out...on his own terms...

If Bill hung it up because deep down he knew he just didn't have "it" in him for another run...I applaud his honesty...

BP gave it his best shot...unfortunately his schemes just couldn't get these players over the hump.

I for one am grateful and appreciative of his efforts over the past 4 years. Anyone that thinks BP didn't give this his best effort, or didn't want to win, doesn't know squat about Bill Parcells...or football for that matter.

He improved the talent level...he brought us back from cap hell...and he certainly maintained and even restored credibility on the organization.

I am optimistic for the future and look forward to the new HC...whoever it may be...taking the Cowboys to the next level.

ok....I'm still waiting to hear how Bill "hosed" Jerry. If Jerry wants Lovie, Fisher or Cowher, he'll get those guys no matter who the current head coach is....

It involves R. Kelly, and it's REALLY gross, so I'll PM you.

I see what he's saying though, it feels like Parcells kind of screwed this up - but if his heart wasn't in it, what could he do? Go through the motions? Is that good for anyone? I don't see where we've missed out on anyone. The worst thing about Parcells quitting is that he couldn't just take one more year. But that's his deal, and that's why he needed that time to make the decision. In reality, Parcells didn't hose Jones, the lack of quality candidates is hosing the Cowboys.

Exactly how did BP hose JJ? BP made the right decision. The biggest mistake BP made was he overstayed his visit IMHO.

The hosing in my opinion came in the timing of his retirement. Jerry wanted and would have like to have had that extra year to get one of the guys he really wanted. I realize Jerry can have any of the guys listed if he reallywants them, but at what cost? Draft picks? I hope not. If he has to wait till next year for one of them, with Parcells leaving, we are in for a lame duck of some sorts this year. And the list I gave, whether we like them or not, is the list that has been floating around that Jerry is enamored with. So I think that is the fascination w/Fisher.

Norv would have to be a complete catastrophe for Jerry to do that. I don't see it.
