A few nights ago as I was contemplating what else I need to do to finish my book I had an epiphany. This year is year 49 in the team History, one short of the Golden Anniversary. There will be infinitely more excitement about the team next year, which could be better for sales. Just some of the factors that could contribute to this...

1. 50 years. It will create some nostalgia.
2. The new stadium is going to create a lot of excitement.
3. Possibly could be the Super Bowl favorite.
4. Might even be the defending champion if 2008 goes well.
5. I will have time to get the web page up and going to help sales.

This also means I won't be rushing the rest of this summer to finish. I am almost done with what I had planned. Now I will still try and finish it, but will take my time to make it better. I might even add some things I had not planned.

It will also give me more time to find a Publisher. I was currently planning to self publish but now will actually solicit Publishing so that it can help sales.

My new goal for release will be right after the Super Bowl. This will allow me to possibly do sales during the Draft party in the DFW area, Training Camp in San Antonio, and throughout the year.

Lots of people have offered support for this project and I want to thank you for it. I'm confident you're going to enjoy this book if you enjoy the Cowboys at all.

I'm delaying the release of my next post indefinitely due to lack of interest.

But seriously, I'm unaware of your project but take it this will be a work on the Cowboys. Could you elaborate a little?

Here's the post where I announced it.

I will be changing the name of the book to say something about 50 years. Right now, I'm leaning towards this...

Embrace the Hatred
50 Years of Dallas Cowboys History

I've got about 85% of my original plans done and the final 15% wouldn't take more than a couple of days.

This is entirely about timing.

Alright. I like the angle. Writing seems to come easy for you so there no doubt it could be successful with proper promotion. Biggest hurdle could be marketing. Maybe you know someone prominent or influential, ideally a sports figure, who can write a letter of recommendation along with excerpts to a publishing house? Just a thought. Self-publishing can be a hard slog.

Sounds like it's going to be a Great accomplishment!

It's a Fantastic idea to have a DIEHARD Fan write about America's Team.

I am sure it will be very Successful.

You know I'll be in line to get one!

Good Luck and look forward to reading it!

I don't know how I managed to miss your earlier post about this, but the book sounds fantastic! I can't wait to get a copy. :)

I've got some background working with publishers -- probably not the same sort of publishers but I'm happy to share what I know. First, I would think that you should expect some serious delays throughout this process if working with a publisher (and possibly even with a self-publishing house). Publishing is by nature very slow going. There are only so many printing presses and you won't be anyone's top priority (not a dig, just reality for 99.9999999% of the people who write books).

Many publishers will take a look at sample chapters so you likely won't need an entire book to start shopping it. It may take some publishers 6 months to get back to you about their interest in the book, so sending this out earlier is better. One thing that will likely delay once the text is accepted by a publisher is that the publisher will likely have an editor (or their assistant) give you detailed notes and comments on the manuscript. These will be things that they will want you to change in your book. It will take time for them to get those comments to you and likely a while for you to address them to their satisfaction. In general, big time writers can say "screw you" to the publisher's comments but most people just have to do what they say.

So, if I had to offer advice it would be that if you want to target 50 years, you should shop this right now. Publishers are far more open to delaying a release than speeding one up.

Just my .02
