Some people need their ego stroked to make them feel intellectually superior .. the tragic aspect that is lost is that those who are intellectually superior rarely need it.

Concur on all accounts.
They did something similar to this in England at Trafalgar Square, asking locals who's likeness was the statue on the pillar. Of course none of them knew, one asking where was Trafalgar Square even as the statue was evident in the background over their shoulder
After the respondents answered incorrectly or didn't know, they were asked to turn around to view the column and statue.
Most then said, "Oh! Napoleon!"
As a cap to the segment they showed numerous foreigners, including a few Americans, giving the correct answer of Lord Horatio Nelson.
