I'm thinking about moving back to Texas

I'm considering the Sherman/Denison area, is anyone familiar with that area that could off some advice? I'm not sure if I will sell my place here or keep it since I'll come back here every few weeks and also have a place to stay during the WSOP.

I lived in a little town called Van Alstyne years ago. It's just south of Sherman.

I didn't go to Sherman a whole bunch but I did go to Lake Texoma a lot. It's is a very cool lake. I always had a good time there.

Sherman isn't that big so I don't know how good the job prospects would be there but if you already have one lined up it would probably be a nice place to live. Small town, not far from Dallas. Close to a nice lake.

Thanks ACF, for your response. Being originally from the DFW area, I'm looking for more of a small town, slower paced atmosphere which is why I was considering this area.

I have thought of the looking at lake property as well if I can find what I'm looking for or possibly having a home built on the lake.

What about a little east of town, towards Tyler... Love all the pine trees in that area.

And BTW, I like Houston better than DFW in most ways. Warmer in the winter, pine and palm trees (amazing how stuff actually grows in areas that get rain), and close enough to go to the beach.

Worst part is only bermuda greens. Don't know how you put up with that, Dooms.

Austin has the lowest unemployment rates in the state... lots of smaller towns outside of Austin that are very nice.

Dripping Springs is 20 miles... Blanco is 40... These are both SW and nice. SW part of Austin is the prettiest...

I think DFW is much better than Houston. But Houston now is much batter than Houston 15 years ago. They have made dramatic improvement to downtown. Now Dallas is doing the same with the updated Arts District.
Dallas' uptown is booming...very, very lively.
If you live in the burbs, traffic sux in both cities.
Houston is the most humid city I have ever lived in except New Orleans. Plus they don't really have seasons there. The city as a whole is much dirtier than Dallas and it has no real zoning laws.
Dallas has more topography, though not a ton of it. Dallas has four seasons, though nothing as good as many places in the US. Dallas is way, way drier. 90 degrees in Houston = 105 in Dallas.

And finally...Dallas is far and away a better sports town.

The area that you're looking has several smaller towns and the countryside can be quite nice up there. Who knows, you may get back to loving high school football (if you ever did in the past). Friday Night Lights!
The point earlier about Lake Texoma is true too--it's nearby and is a very nice lake.

Trick is right about there being some nice towns around Austin too. That's a cool part of the state and prettier than either the Dallas or Houston areas.

I've always thought that the Livingston area was really nice. Not too far from IAH, surrounded by National forest, Lake Livingston right there and Rayburn, Toldedo Bend and Lake Conroe all pretty close as well.

I love high school football, I know that people that aren't from Texas maybe don't realize how big HS football is in Texas.

The hill country right? I know that living down there I would want acreage and I'm not sure about that at this point.
