5th worst in that year and for the Cowboys as a team, second worst ever in yards and the worst in team history for points allowed.

But then they hired a Dan Quinn, and three seasons later here we are as quite possibly one of the best if not the best.

Amazing to see progress and dedication especially whatever sacrifices Quinn had to make personally to get this done.

Bravo to him and his staff and of course the players for buying in and working hard to achieve it.

Hes incredible. I would have another coach who bought in 1000% shadow this man and soak up as much knowledge as humanly possible. He won't be here forever, but his legacy might.

They were a middle-of-the-pack defense in 2019. Then they brought in Nolan and everything went in the toilet. I don't know if it was Covid keeping them from learning the system or the system being terrible for the personnel or what, but they looked like 4-year-olds playing soccer out there, especially early in the year. The point being that the talent was a lot better than the performance in 2020.

DQ has done a good job, but drafting Micah in 2021 has made more of an impact than anything else.

Doesn't matter how good your DC is if you don't have pressure players.
Without Quinn and with Micah, this wouldn't be anything like it is.

Quinn is a much bigger player in this than Micah, as great as Micah is.

Wrong.

Quinn gets credit for talent acquisition and how he uses players, but you take Micah off this defense and everyone is worse.

Good defenses are defined, entirely, by their ability to continually generate pressure by rushing 4. Nothing else matters.

He did this in Seattle, too, to an even greater degree. He knows how to use players. All of his players.

So true. Did you see what Dez posted last night about Garrett?

I didn't.
We deleted it it, but:

“Take notes Jason Garrett,” Bryant wrote. “Coach McCarthy treat his players like Grown Men. I would have hated if you had the opportunity to coach a player like Micah Parsons or Trevon Diggs. This football. F--- a good guy. Where the dogs at? McCarthy got em.”

I dont think Parson and Garrett would have got on to well.

There's a reason Mike Nolan ended up landing in the USFL.

Still, props to Quinn for turning it around. He's an amazing DC.

Remember, one of the things Quinn did was to make Parsons one of those front four. Maybe another DC would have figured it out as quickly, but I'm not convinced. Remember how long this team kept Byron Jones as safety?

Sure, he gets credit for that. But what's the saying...can't make chicken salad out of chicken poop? lol

the first half of that season we were the absolute worst defense in history of the league by a mile. then we played a bunch of back up QBs and showed better. that defense was putrid awful.

I want to know how they plan on keeping him. DQ is the best thing that has happened to this team, possibly ever. The guy puts his money where his mouth is.

All they can do is pay him and they will continue to do so.

They will have a hard time succeeding and moving from MM to Quinn. That's why I'd suggest making sure a like minded replacement is being groomed. Eventually Quinn will likely want to be HC.
