For police investigations, the first 48 hours are the most critical when it comes to closing the deal... Likewise, I wonder how long after Jason Peters visit, before we realize that he won't be signed? 24 hours? more?

I've heard that the Cowboys don't have to guarantee salaries if a player is signed after week 1. So, that could be a reason to wait. However, I'd be really disappointed if they passed up on erasing a major weakness at LT to save guaranteed money.

On the other hand... Jason Peters... How much can you trust that he won't be a Philadelphia Eagle for a single play, and let Dak get destroyed when the Cowboys face off against the Eagles??? They should stipulate that he will get additional bonus money for not allowing a single sack against the Eagles.... seriously.

No other team has been interested in Jason Peters that we know of. I don’t think waiting 48 hours or 72 hours is really going to matter.
If some team was concerned we will sign him first, I think we would have heard of other teams scheduling visits.

Yeah, a future HoF player is gonna let someone blast by him to get to our QB because they used to be teammates.

Right.

Good point. I'm a little frustrated we haven't signed him yet as the season is getting closer. I was hoping they could get him in ASAP so he can play LT and Tyler can go back to G. Maybe that'll happen or maybe he'll be depth but getting him signed would help me feel better.

The delay to sign Peters is not about denying him a guaranteed salary. The only position he wants is as the LT starer, but the FO has already committed to giving their freshly drafted 1st round pick. Tyler Smith first dibs at that spot. So the delay is about giving Tyler the opportunity to prove himself. It remains to be seen how patient the Cowboys will be. One week, two weeks? No one knows. But this is what the delay to sign Peters is about.

Your feelings don't matter and your thoughts on what should happen are off target. The Cowboys have a plan to go with Tyler Smith at LT and they will stick to it until such time they need to bring in someone from the outside... enter Jason Peters. If that doesn't comply with your self-imagined timeline then suck it up and roll with the punches to your ego.

At this point aren't the Jones boys pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel anyway? Peters might have a little left in the tank but to me this is really just to provide depth.

Peters is ten years older then Tyron Smith . That’s a lot of mileage . In this instance this is not a warm body you have to panic and sign . If Tyler Smith is the choice at LT and the man has played the position before he’s your number one pick let’s go with it .

It’s what this does to the vacated guard spot that worries me more. Dallas is about to find out is Connor McGovern better then the mediocrity Connor Williams took his “ talents “ to South Beach . And Farniok is another possibility at guard . Let’s go internal before we start buying out of work 40 yr old linemen .

Wow dude. You need to back off the hostility. This is a fan forum and as a fan I have the right to share my opinions, feelings and beliefs. If you're not mentally stable enough to have a pleasant conversation with another Cowboys fan then maybe therapy is something you need. There's no need for you to act this way and be so combative since I did not say anything about you directly. I just gave my opinion and feelings which is why Forums like this are created. If you can't handle another person having a conversation that does agree with you or you can't control then you need therapy or some social skills training. Good luck to you. I'll be praying your anger at the world can be resolved.

You are confusing my brutal honesty for hostility. Yes, it is your right to bring your feelings into this discussion and it is my right to tell you your feelings don't matter. All any of us care about from you is what's on your mind, not your feelings. So if your feelings are too intertwined with your thoughts then perhaps a sports forum is not the place for you, buttercup. Shove your therapy where the sun doesn't shine. :D

"Shove your therapy where the sun doesn't shine". Yeah that's a lot of pent up anger and hostility.
Step 1- Google "therapists near me"
Step 2- show him/her screenshots of this conversation.
Step 3- allow therapist to work with you to become the best version of you.

You can so it bro, I got faith in you. Good luck and learn some social skills while you're at it. I'm going to be brutally honest with you. If you can't handle someone saying that they would be more comfortable signing a player sooner than later then you have serious control issues. So again therapy is your friend. Take care

Quite possibly the Cowboys plan is off target to start a rookie at left tackle that's never played a snap in the NFL , has practiced all summer at Left guard and has a sprained ankle.

Maybe a better plan is to bring in a veteran that is played left tackle forever started 15 games last year graded out well and could be an excellent mentor to our young rookie while he gets his feet wet at guard and learns the speed of the NFL.

Beyond that there's no self-imagine timeline.
There's a game against a great defensive line next week so maybe you need to get a clue internet tough guy and stop confusing people's feelings with common sense.

When I said. "the only thing any of us care about is what's on your mind, not your feelings", I actually meant what's on your mind pertaining to the thread topic. I didn't know you were a life coach dispensing free advice. My bad, but what a great deal for me. Not only do I get football information here, but now I can come to you and get step-by-step instructions on how to become the best version of myself. Thank you so much. Since we are being so civil now, I decided to correct your grammar so go ahead and check it out. I wonder if I'll get a "thank you" too?

Paranoid much? We're worrying about this before he even signs a contract? He's likely still pissed at the Eagles for cutting him! ;)
