I personally know nothing about it, though my mother and father lived there before I was born. (Navy)

Although, from other people I heard is that crime is a major issue there. Also here is what someone said on Yahoo Answers about Jacksonville. :laugh2:

While there is a significant capital crime problem, you don't have to live where that happens. You're 80 miles from the Okefenokee swamp, the Daytona 500, close to the oldest city in the US, and a short drive from the golf hall of fame.

Active club life, with limited concert appearances. Lots of red necks to laugh at, and a formidable First Baptist Church to be feared.
It's the incubator of Southern Rock, and significant country music has roots here.

The cuisine is fantastic. Fine dining (Matthew's) to really good fresh seafood (Singleton's in Mayport, Jax Beach Seafood on University, etc.).
There's only one real newspaper in town, and it's online at Jacksonville.Com.
I came here in 1980, and while we have a seasonal house in North Carolina, we spend most of our time here.

So, if you have a high tolerance for people who want to tell you what to do, and are able to suffer fools, come on down. Except for hurricanes and insufferable humidity you can't beat the climate, and I don't know anyone who was killed by the weather.

As SLATE said. A lot of rednecks. A lot of younger people since there is a naval base there. Or was. Haven't lived in Jacksonville since I was a youngin.

I just got back from a week in Orlando. It sucked. I hate FL with a passion. It was in the mid 90s and very humid. You couldn't do anything without A/C. I don't like the beach bum mentality and all the whacked-out people in FL. A very strange state, indeed. And I didn't feel very safe while I was there. Too many tourists and nuts.

If you are going to Fl, better learn Spanish if you don't speak it already. I heard more Spanish than English, no exageration.

On the plus side, the chicks seemed pretty agressive and loose. I guess that is good.

Any-who.......weather-wise you're moving to alot more humid Phoenix. That's all I can tell ya.
