FRISCO, Texas — From left to right, the Cowboys seem to be dealing with their share of injuries on the offensive line, including some of their front-line players. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said both Zack Martin and Chuma Edoga – the two starting guards for Sunday's game against the Jets – will likely miss Wednesday's practice this week. However, the coach isn't ruling them out to potentially play against the Cardinals in Arizona on Sunday.

"I don't see Zack practicing on Wednesday, but we'll see what Thursday brings," McCarthy said on Monday. "I think he'll definitely have an opportunity to play on Sunday. And the same thing with Chuma." Martin was on the injury report last week with a groin injury, which had him limited in two practices. He then suffered an ankle injury in the game that eventually forced him out of the game in the fourth quarter with the Cowboys up by 20 points.

Edoga has a forearm injury that kept him out of most of the second half, replaced by rookie T.J. Bass. When Martin and Edoga were both out, Asim Richards came in to play left guard and Bass on the right side.

Now, the Cowboys might get some help at guard with the return or Tyler Smith, who has missed two straight games with a hamstring injury he sustained in practice before the Week 1 opener against the Giants. Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones said on 105.3 "The Fan" on Monday that Smith could make his debut this Sunday.

"We feel very optimistic about Tyler [Smith] having a great chance at having a shot against Arizona." If Tyler Smith returns, coupled by Martin being able to play, it could give the Cowboys their first game of the season at full strength on the offensive line, along with left tackle Tyron Smith, center Tyler Biadasz and right tackle Terence Steele.

Tyler Biadasz

  • Height: 6-3
  • Weight: 316 lbs
  • College: Wisconsin

3:44 p.m. – Every snap this season, Tyler Biadasz has his hands on the football before the snap. But twice already this year, he's been the last one to grab it, thanks to his hustle.

Biadasz recovered yet another fumble by the offense on Sunday, sprinting more than 30 yards down the field to pounce on a fumble by CeeDee Lamb, to keep a possession alive. Last week, he also recovered a Tony Pollard fumble near the goal line that led to a touchdown.

I think Biadasz is underrated by a lot of the forum. I hear availability is the best ability on here.. he's a work horse.

Tyler Smith

1:15 p.m. — Tyler Smith has missed the first two games of the Cowboys season with a hamstring strain, but there's potential for him to take the field in Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.

"We feel very optimistic about Tyler [Smith] having a great chance at having a shot against Arizona," Executive Vice President and Director of Player Personnel Stephen Jones told 105.3FM the Fan on Monday morning.

Smith was "on the cusp" of playing in Week 1 against the New York Giants, but was held out to allow for more recovery time to help avoid potentially suffering a setback.

The former first-round pick has been pushing to play, per head coach Mike McCarthy, but also stated last week that he understands "it's a long season" and it's key to "be smart about it".

Tyron Smith and Tyler Smith could be playing next to each other on Sunday and I can't wait to see this duo get stronger as the season progresses. Imagine now, that the RB can either run to the strength of Martin&Steele or they can decide on the "firm" of Smith&Smith.

I guess it's time to go take my medication.

I’d rather error on the side of caution and keep Tyler out one more week. And if we get a big lead early I say take out Martin as well. The healthier the offensive line is down the stretch the better our chances late in the season and the playoffs. JMO

The Cowboys have done an incredible job with the OL the past the past couple of years. It has transformed into a plug and play unit that performs at a high level. The updated scheme on offense will only help the OL as it will help the QB. I still think they need to get another versatile OL on the roster for depth.

I want to see TJ Bass interchangeable at all three interior positions and this camper is happy right now.

I complained almost weekly on here about the oline depth. However even Chuma has surprised along with Bass. I think Bass and Richards are great rookie finds now that they are playing. I am no longer as concerned as I used to be.

THAT being said we all know Tyron is going down soon. We can hide one guy, can we hide two?

You could tell Zack was struggling at times to play hurt. Not necessarily affecting his performance but just a little too slow to get off the turf and other moments.

I'll look at this "glass half full" and say if there were going to be injuries on the offensive line, I would rather they all get out of the way now so the young guys can learn. Most of our backups need experience more than anything.

Just how old does one think he is? I was over 40 and expected to do everything expected of a Private or wasn't a leader then.

No one knows if Tyron will go down soon. We do know that Tyler Smith will be back soon.

I don't believe anything the Cowboys management says about injuries. They lost me for good when Gallimore was out for 13 weeks after hyperextending his elbow (no structural damage). They were talking about how Tyler Smith could possibly play week 1 and now we are 3 weeks into the season and they still can't say for certain if he will play or not. This is the typical pabulum we get from them when it comes to injuries.
