I have ATT, but I've been having trouble with it for a couple of months now. It is also very slow. Thinking of getting Hughes Net. Any info or thoughts are appreciated.

I have ATT as well. If I don’t unplug the system and reboot it every 3-5 days, it gets slow. Also need to make sure equipment is up to date, sometimes it’s time to have them bring u new stuff.

No experience with Hughes Net.

What matters is type of internet, i.e. ATT broad band? Hughes Net is satellite internet which has slower upload speeds and is fairly expensive. If you can provide more details of the technology of what you’re considering, we can help out some more.

I live in a ranch, the ATT lines run about 1000 ft to their port. Because of this I only run speeds of about 4mps and my smart TVs keep dropping the signal because their service slows down every few minutes.
I guess what I'd like to know is info on Hughes Net.

I’ve never used it but a quick search shows a lot of disappointment:

I feel your pain with AT&T. I hate that company and you can bet net neutrality probably has something to do with it. (see the news about the California fire fighters getting throttled while trying to fight the fires)

Hughes Net is a last resort if you live out in the country and have no other options. Find someone else or stick with AT&T.

Know a few people that have tried Hughes and dumped it, Satellite internet is iffy, that's why DirecTV gave up on DirecPC. If sat was as good, the big companies would have moved to that instead of the expense of laying cable and fiber optics.

Your proximity is the issue and I had the same problem with ATT in OK and they tried everything to fix it because I was the first to try it in the largest complex in the town and that was DSL, not U-Verse or fiber. They gave up after setting me up on my own hub, it would not stay connected.

Cable is your best option but where you live probably isn't one. But what have you got to lose trying Hughes? If it doesn't work as well as ATT, you can always go back.

Is there a point to point service in your area?

I know a few people very happy with the speeds they are getting.

kinda pricey ~80 month

I pay that for cable and it's 24-2, the highest they offer in this area. They have 100 in other areas but not here.

Unless you live in the mountains somewhere, you will regret getting Hughes Net. Satellite internet is slow and has painful data caps. Its also very expensive. What kind of ATT service do you have. Fiber or DSL? I have ATT and its incredibly fast. Who is your local cable company?

No cable out my way. Tech came out and created a more direct line to my routes phone jack. Working right now. Keeping my fingers gets crossed!

Yeah, the problem with DSL is the distance your service has to travel which I am sure you have been told/found out by now.

This won't help anyone here ... but I am with a small local internet company. I have been with the big guys, but the customer service I get from my provider is top notch. When the big guys all raised their prices they sent out an email reminder that they have no increased their rates since 2011.

I have ATT and the service is adequate but not great. It does go out sometimes and is slow at others but the only alternative is Charter and from what people tell me they have had problems in my area with Charter going out for long periods of time at least once a month.
