Then he said that amount doubles after a few years... wow. Talk about cheap labor. I could barely afford gas on that weekly salary, let alone food.

Everyone brings up the conditions, but my question is how much would these people be making if it weren't for Foxconn? Probably nothing. There are a lot of Chinese families who have food because of these jobs.

That does not make it right however.
CashMan;4508557 said:Why is not right, I doubt Apple is putting a gun to these peoples heads and saying you have to work here. They do not have to take the job.

I will just simply say that we as Americans should not have to outsource jobs when we have unemployment here.

Perhaps if our government didn't impose the 2nd highest corporate tax rate in the world, U.S. companies wouldn't mind paying more taxes, but as it is, they find any way they can to get out of it.Eskimo;4508502 said:To me the question is what kind of living can they have on that wage? Is that a good quality of life for that salary? I think Apple should at least pay wages there to provide that for its workers.
The way the world has evolved is multi-nationals will go to emerging economies for manual, rote labour jobs. If you want a good living here you have to have a job that isn't out-sourcable either due to the need to be here physically to do the job, professional certification or high level skills that are scarce globally. Everyone else is fighting against the race to the bottom. There is little that can be done to legislate against it.
The one thing I would suggest is the USA should stop allowing its corporations to claim their profits elsewhere. Apple really generates its earnings here, not in Switzerland. Everyone knows it but no one does anything about it. All those Apple workers grew up here, used your education resources, used American infrastructure and know-how to build their company and then they avoid paying business taxes on their profits - scum. It's not just Apple, either - lots of companies play this game with a fake head office in Bermuda, Cayman Islands or Switzerland to avoid paying taxes on their business profits generated in the US.
