I had to read this twice to verify I understood it. There are crazy people everywhere and the scary thing is they vote.

An Orange County woman has asked the city of Irvine to erect a sign honoring hundreds of truck crash victims -- who were fish.

About 1,600 pounds of saltwater bass died on Oct. 11 when a container truck hauling them to market got into a three-way crash.

Dina Kourda, a local volunteer with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, wrote the head of street maintenance requesting a sign at the intersection to honor the fish.

Kourda's letter notes that while roadside memorials traditionally honor human beings, she hopes an exception will be made to remind drivers that all animals -- in her words -- "value their lives and feel pain."

Irvine spokesman Craig Reem tells the Los Angeles Times that no memorial is planned.

I wonder what would happen if you explained to the woman what was to happen to the fish once they got to market?

This may not be popular, but I think roadside memorials should not be allowed. It is a distraction. It is not their property. And they don't erect them other places where people die, like hospitals and homes.

She is part of PETA. Of course she is crazy and out there.

You have a good point. I don't understand people that try to raise animals up to human levels, or lower humans to animal levels. Well, you know what I mean. Animals are a food source, or at least the ones that taste good are. I think the whole animal rights thing has got totally out of hand.

The longer I live the more I learn about the human race.

If she gets the memorial then I want a memorial to the memorial....

Animal rights has not gotten out of hand. PETA has gotten out of hand. Two different things in my mind.

You can't build a memorial because it would disrupt insect life in the area. You have to consider the bugs feelings.

I come from a rural background. I don't believe in any type of abuse concerning animals, but the notion that animals have the same rights as humans is a joke. PETA has gone to the extreme, so has many otherwise normal people that supports animal right agendas. At no time in history has animals been placed on the same level as humans to the extent they are today. It hasn't been that many years ago that they had cockfights at the White House. In some places it is now a felony. I just don't agree with the direction that it is going. There are much more serious problems with the human population that needs attention.

I never said animal rights is about giving animals the same rights as humans. That is something PETA wants to do, which is why I said animal rights and PETA are two different things. And the human population can deal with multiple problems and issues at the same time. I agree that animal rights issues are not at the forefront of things that need to be dealt with.

No, I wasn't directing it toward you. I should have made myself clear. I agree with you that the PETA approach is nuts and there are others that are just as bad.

Move them out of the way. I just need a few feet here. I'm working here. I'm working here.

I do think animals should have some rights. But you need to know where to draw the line

The dog or cat you talk to and expect to understand you says hello.
