I gave it a shot. It's got nothing on Justified.

I really like it.

You watch Justified? That's a great show, set in Kentucky rather than WYO.

I'm giving Longmire a shot b/c I have family in WYO. So far, it's still in the DVR rotation. I'd like to see it get a little more grit, and a little better dialogue.

I love Justified but Longmire is nothing like it. The only thing they have in common is the lead actor wears a Stetson. :laugh1:

I think 'Justified' is what A&E was aiming for. Cowboy lawman in a rustic state based off of a detective novel series and aired in the gap between Justified seasons. It's not much like it, though, you're right. Needs more grit, better characters, better dialogue, and a real villain. But it's got time to find its stride. I like the setting and the casting well enough.

I'm watching, and so far it's been good enough for me to give it another week every week, if you know what I mean. I thought it was pretty funny when after the first episode aired, A&E showed a commercial for Longmire calling it something like the new top rated show on tv....and I was thinking, well, yeah because what else is there right now? Lol.

Anyway, I'll probably give it the rest of the season to see what it turns into. One thing I've learned is to never judge a new series on it's first couple of episodes as they tend to be the worst. If it's going to turn into something really good, it usually will before the first season is over.

They do that with movies also. Movie A is the #1 comedy of the week.....ummm what other comedies are out? :laugh1:

Or the one that kills me is when they advertise for a new show and say this week is an all new episode. Of course its all new. :laugh1:

I missed the last episode but I've watched the rest. I like it ok but Justified is far superior IMO.

Also, I have read a couple of the Longmire Mystery novels by Craig Johnson and was really looking forward to the TV show but it hasn't translated all that well for me. For one thing, what makes the books, or at least the ones I've read, good is the sense of humor through snappy dialogue between characters, which is absent in the TV show so far. The other thing (somewhat related to the first) that bugs me is that in the book Longmire has close, caring and interesting relationships with the other characters (particularly his dog and his secretary) but I haven't really seen that in the episodes I've watched so far. The casting is off for me as well but this is perhaps because the actors in the show are nowhere close to what I had visualized while reading the books. Katee Sackhoff, particularly, seems a terrible miscast to me.

I don't necessarily think it a bad show but hard for me to separate the books from the TV show. It just doesn't have the same flavor. I will still keep watching though and hopefully they will develop the relationships between the characters a bit better and introduce some of the humor from the book.
