I have been reading several post on here about Campo being DC. Is this really true guys or is this just some posters speculating???

Garrett.........great hire, will be excellet for Romo and offense.

Norv, if hired........I can live with this, would be great mentor for Garrett.

However,

Campo........I just vomited in my mouth. I though we just experimented with 4-3 guys trying to run the 3-4.......see Zimmerman for how that worked out.

This move would just be freaking dumb, at least Garrett and Norv can be rationalized, but noway can a Campo hire be defended.

If I hear Avezzono is being considered for Special teams coach, I really will think Jerry has lost it and is trying to recreat the glory years.

Please guys, tell me Campo is not really being considered.....please!!!

hell no...i hope not

Why did we not just keep Zimmerman if another 4-3 guy is being considered?

If there is any ounce of truth in this, Garret and Norv better have Romo dropping 50 on everybody next year, beacuse our D is not going to be stopping anybody.

At least it will be entertaining, kinda like watching Arena ball with 55-52 scores:laugh2:

I think it is just reporter speculation...and a long shot at that.

I have heard nor read anything to indicate he is being brought in for an interview.

Thanks for the info BrainPaint.

My problem with Dave Campo is that he was never really considered a "great"' coordinator while here, to the best of my recollection.

I actually thought Zimmer was a slightly more skilled coordinator. He had more success here, albeit with improved talent.

But weren't Campo's problems the same as Zimmer's? A sort of bend-but-don't-break approach that lacked a lot of pressure on quarterbacks?

Again, my recollection of history could be off here. But that's how I seem to 'remember' Campo's years as defensive coordinator.

No, you're right.

Campo was never a great coordinator. He was a decent secondary coach. Our defenses never provided pressure under him.

Dave's PA numbers were pretty good over his tenure though. A #5 ('99), a #14 (when the whole team tanked in '97) and three #3's (95, 96, 98). When Dave moved up to HC and Zimmer took over as DC in '00 it dropped down into the 20's.

Even Davey is one of those that has the Assistant Head Coach tag (along with Secondary coach) down in Jax too.. whatever thats worth.

Dave was solid overall. But not what I'd call good.

Yes, we had good numbers when you look at points against. But we were never a defense that forced a lot of turnovers or sacked the QB a lot under him.

The numbers you posted were due more to the fact that our offense held the ball long and he played a bend-don't break style....that's what we've been lamenting here for years. It started with Campo.

Somehow, Norv receiving mention for the vacany has led people to believe that we are going hire someone who used to be here.

I think it comes down to Norv / Phillips as HC. I almost think we're going with Phillips.

You guys should do some research before making statements, I see that a lot on this site.

Campo was our DC for 5 years, his first year as DC, we won the Superbowl and had the 5th ranked defense, his second year we had the 4th ranked defense in the NFL, his 3rd year we had the #1 defense in the NFL, his 4th we dropped to 14 and his last we were ranked 11th......so in his 5 years as DC we were ranked in the top 5 defenses 3 times (including a #1 finish) and the other two we were in the top 15.......lol, good job guys! Campo was a horrible DC :lmao2: Give me a break.

Your right, lots of talk and very little real knowledge.

Yeah, and we had the number one defense in 2003....

Why don't you do some research and tell me where we ranked in sacks and TOs forced....

He also had the help of a pretty stout offense....we controlled the ball well. That allowed us to keep other offenses off the field. We also had a healthy Deion Sanders, who alone gave us the ability to shut down one half of the field.

Shoot, if you want to go by defensive ranking, then Zimmer compares favorably to him.

Other than 95', when we were still well-stocked with talent, Campo never had a defense that dynamically changed the game. I remember most posters on message boards were frustrated with our lack of pass rush with him as DC.

We have too many people here judging Campo on his head-coaching tenure, which sucked and not his DC years which were darned good.

Campo would probably do ok in the 4/3 but I would think his 3/4 expertise would be a little suspect.

I won't bother to research that little tid bit. :)

Campo was an excellent coordinator he just wasn't worth a damn as a head coach.

But in a world in which jerra is pining for the gold old days, he might just do something as rash as Norval Eugene Turner.

Chances are jerra is not as dumb as everybody thinks.

He won't hire a Norv who tanked in Oakland and Washington and did not get the 49ers into the playlffs in a weak division. And chances are slimmer that he'll try a retread (Campo) who has already been a head coach in Dallas.
I hope.

I agree, Camps was a terrible HC, but did a solid job at DC.
