Is the free version any good? Is the $25.00 Pro version any good?

Install a friendly distribution of Linux, it's the best choice you'll ever make :p

To answer your question: I've used it on my Windows 7 system and it seems to work well enough. I wouldn't pay for most premium antivirus/antimalware applications as you can almost certainly find as good as or better equivalents for free.

I have not used Malware Bytes, so I can't comment on it. I have been using a product called Advanced SystemCare by IOBit that I like, though. It's got a 1-click "Quick Care" that does malware removal, registry scan, shortcut fix, erase privacy history, and empty junk files. It also has a more thorough 1-click option called "Deep Care" that does everything Quick Care does, plus a Windows vulnerability check, optimization, disk scan, registry defrag, and disk defrag if needed. All of that is included in the free version. I recently purchased a 1-year license for the Pro version that only cost about $13.

For deep cleaning I use CCleaner. It's free, it can delete anything on your computer (including your entire drive if you wish), and you can set it delete up to 35 passes.

Wait until it is $10 or $15. Newegg/amazon and others generally have sales for it at that price. I buy it because I like to support them and others like them (truecrypt for example). I have it installed on many of my and my family's computers, and they work great.

The Pro allows for real-time protection, but you can also just scan anytime you want with the free.

Just checked, and it was $9.99 on both Newegg and Amazon just two weeks ago. I would put in a camelcamelcamel price checker and buy it when it is on sale again.

You can click on track and put in the price you are will to pay, and if it drops below that, it'll send you a notice:

I don't use it (all my stuff is Mac), but my husband is a Windows IT guy, and he has it on all his machines, and recommends it (free version) to clients all the time.

I use it to snuff out malware from time to time when some of my traders get the garbage.

So you use it quite often. I've worked with bond traders also. :laugh1:

Traders and brokers always infect each other with crap. They're always sending each other BS through IM or email. I catch most of it, but sometimes they find away around it.

Nice to see they haven't changed :laugh1:

I used to rely on the free malware bytes a lot. Since I started using Norton Internet Security, I haven't needed it really. I scan on occasion but it never finds anything. NIS keeps you safe. Best software I've used in a while.

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but thought I'd share this deal:

Newegg

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro + 8GB ADATA USB 2.0 Flash Drive $10 with free shipping

The guys in our IT dept tell me they are not too crazy about it.
