IRVING ? Nick Folk is just about ready for the regular season.
The second-year kicker has made all six field goal attempts in the preseason but said Monday he needs work on his kickoffs.

Folk said he is working on a different technique in his approach in an effort to disguise which direction he will kick the ball. However, it has led to some mi****s.

In three preseason games, the Cowboys have allowed 29 yards per kick return, including returns of 68 and 52 yards against Houston.

"The kicks have been good," said Folk, who had four touchbacks last year, "but the direction hasn't been there."

Folk has made all three field goal attempts from 40 yards or longer in the preseason, including a 48-yarder against the Texans.

He said regaining a rhythm with long snapper L.P. Ladouceur and holder Brad Johnson has been important.

"I feel good about where I was in camp, and I feel good about where I am now," Folk said.

I think it is an excuse.

Poor coaching/scheme from Read, injuries to regulars and bad decisions by inexperienced players are more of an issue IMO.

We have had some bad kickers in here and never had these types of problems.

The loss of Keith Davis shouldn't be overlooked either.

One of the problems is that we are trotting guys out there who won't even make the team. We're trying to see if they could contribute to Special Teams. Clearly some of them can't.

Who cares but direction kick it as deep as possible and force a touch back.
The first kickoff against the Texans was plenty deep (3-4 yards into the endzone), but it was a line drive with little hang time and most importantly our coverage was not in position.

No doubt the directional part didn't help, but like Pat Watkins said yesterday, the guys on coverage have to adjust to the ball. The blame is at the most equal, but probably more on the coverage guys.

Folk doesn't need to change anything IMO. Just keep kicking that ball through the uprights!!! This guy is a true weapon. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that we have this guy. After 50 kickers in however many years it's awesome to finally have one!

By the way I saw on the ticker on espn last night that he is the #1 kicker on there fantasy football deal. That's saying a lot from a 2nd year kicker!!

Hollywood couldn't scripped a more terrifying scene than watching our ST try to cover a kick return. I don't know what I'm more afraid of.....heights or watching our kick coverage team.

Him not getting enough air under the ball doesn't have anything to do with direction. How long does the ball have to be in the Air to be considered good hang time ?? How long was his opening KO in the air ?
