Isn't this about the time we get breaking news?

Usually, it's about a week prior to the draft that it leaks out who is in contract negotiations as the first pick... I'm expecting some news at some point. The best reason that there are no negotiations is that the Raiders could still be looking for a deal to trade back a few spots. All the excitement will shift to #2 if they do start contract talks with someone.

You know, I'd say that's the biggest benefit of having the number one pick, knowing how greedy your first pick is going to be before you have to actually pick him!

its been so peacefull so whats the deal???

no most first overall signings happen within two days of the draft although its rare that people sign pre-draft.

I thought I read on here that they had begun talks with Jamarcus Russell and Calvin Johnson.

I would imagine they have begun contract talks, i bet the Raiders sign two people within 5 days

a) Tim Rattay
b) Calvin Johnson 6 years - 54 mil

It's usually the week of the draft when we start hearing about contracts. Houston signed Mario Williams the Friday evening before the draft last year.

You are correct. It has been reported they are in negotiations with both of those players. Similar to how the Texans were in negotiations with Reggie and Mario last week.

I also heard the rumors on sportscenter (rumors and sportscenter so take it FWIW) that The raiders really want Calvin but they would only take him if they can trade for a QB that Al would approve of at this time.

That was another scenario they were talking about on sportscenter. But some were saying that they would be running a risk of doing that and a QB they like not being there.

My idea is they could still trade Randy or Joey and pick up some picks to move back up if they had to do so.

I just could not pass up on Calvin, I think he is hands down the best player in the draft. Plus one other thing of note...it has been YEARS since the Raiders (with Al) have taken a QB in the first.

I agree...I think CJ is by far the best player too...if I thought Russell or Quinn were Elway/Aikman prospects, it'd be a no brainer...but they arnt and are not close either

Raiders need a franchise QB and Russell is it. They have some good players at the skill positions. Add in Russell and they would be set except for the line. I'd spend the rest of the draft on O-line if I were Al.
