Heroes has been cancelled. The last season was just gawd-awful and you could tell that every plot twist had been exhausted.

Heroes was canceled by NBC today. Heroes had rumors that it would be canceled for quite a while, but Heroes was officially canceled today by the network. Ratings had been declining all four seasons that Heroes was on NBC, and the reprieve that the show was given with a fourth season turned out to be the final chance the show would get. With the news that NBC was going to produce a new show featuring a family with special powers in fall of 2010, it added even more fuel to the rumor that Heroes would get canceled. Well Lynette Rice confirmed the news this evening, announcing that Heroes was canceled after four seasons on the air.

The season finale of Heroes was only able to bring in 4.4 million viewers according to the Nielsen ratings, which was a far cry from where the show had been during its first season on the network. Heroes was one of the top shows on the network just three years ago, but it didn't bow out at a very high number. The average number of viewers during the fourth season on NBC was only 5.21 million viewers, way down from the average of 7.61 million viewers in season three. The thing that had garnered bonus points for Heroes and NBC were all of the DVR viewers that the show had, which approached two million in season three, giving even more reason to keep the show on the air.

During the 2006-2007 season of Heroes, the average episode brought in 13.86 million viewers, dropping to 11.46 million in season two, which may have been the last real gasp of air for the show before the writer's strike. When the show came back, it just wasn't as strong, and the viewers really knew it. Now Heroes has been canceled after a fourth season that never seemed to get off the ground, and most viewers of the show would probably be willing to admit that the show had reached its creative pique already.

Heroes, a great idea which was quickly warped into something it wasn't. Here was a series which was originally designed as a dramatic comic book serial. Then someone thought, "HEY! Let's make this into some sort of cheezy soap opera!"

It would not surprise me that NBC executives [strike]sucked the life out of it's independent producer's originality[/strike] suggested way too many changes of its plotlines too often. If so, it will not have been the first series which was driven into a dead end and it will not be the last.

One thing's for certain in my opinion. The show had WAY too much Sylar. His character should have reached a permanent demise a LONG time ago. All of the so-called villains took a back seat to him. By show's end, it reminded me more of the 'The Perils of Penelope Pitstop'. That's a true shame considering how good it was in the beginning.

Sylar was one of the few characters I actually rooted for. Too me it jumped the shark when it was revealed his real mother was the Patrelli lady.

Whoa! I thought that Mrs. Patrelli was running a game on him in order to keep a better track of him.

I was hoping Sylar would kill all of them :laugh2:

The one I hated the most was Parkman. That stupid head tilt when he was using his powers was annoying.

You crazy. :p:

As much as I detested Sylar, it made my day when they knocked off Nathan. All he ever contributed was a little flying sordy (sp?) here or there. That was about it. Of course, in typical idiotic form, they 'replaced' Nathan with Sylar via his stolen morphing ability. I went from :D to  within the last few minutes of ONE episode! :banghead:

Great first season. Complete downward spiral afterwards. Too many redos, too much soap opera. They didn't seem to understand what got people interested in the first place.

The cancelling is a few years too late, imo.

I tell most people to just watch Season 1 and believe that the whole series ended with that finale.

Season 1 was the only tolerable season, and even it was completely riddled with plot holes and **** that just plain didn't make sense.

That show got so awful and full of plot/character induced stupidity that it hurt my head.. Yet there I was watching it every week.

Glad to hear it's canceled, free up space on my DVR each week.

That's how I felt when they killed Parkman. He was more useful as a "Hero" than Nathan, but a far worse character. Both sucked though and should have died long ago for their stupidity.

Sylar outside of the whole trip with the Mexican chick was one of the few bright spots on the show the last few seasons, but his story was dragged out far too long, everything always went in a circle, for all of the characters really.

Yeah, Sylar and Mr. Bennett were the best characters.

And is it me, or could the guy that played Peter Petrelli couldn't act to save his life? That guy was just horrible.

They couldn't kill Sylar because once you introduce a character that can steal everyone else's powers and is a bad guy, there is noway to create another villain that is more powerful then that.

IT was never a strongly written show; it was different and got a lot of publicity- but once people took a good look at it they left. There really was nothing worth your time. Which is a shame since the concept had promise and they did have some good charactors.
