It's looking like Schot will be running the offense, what does that mean?

It looking likely that no matter what the Cowboys decide it appears Brian Schottenheimer is either going to become the HC or OC. What does that mean for the Cowboys and their offense?

-Expect to see more of a run first type of scheme, Moore would be the opposite. In his days with the Jets, it was all about "ground and pound". His offense with the Seahawks was also more run oriented. Expect to see emphasis with both the OL and RB positions high in the draft.

-He has used a similar inside zone rushing scheme in the past. That means more of the same, inside runs are the staple. Expect to see more of a bell cow then a speedy type of back. His strategy with the Jets was to lean on their defense and control the clock with their running game.

-We are going to see more 12 personnel and less multiple WR sets. Wouldn't shock me if they added another high-end TE to the group.

-Believe we are going to see less reliance of Dak and the passing game, going to become more of a game manager.

Also, it means WR @ 12 is highly unlikely......
I actually don't have problem this style of offense coz it's low and take the ball out of Dak hands a bit but boy, you better have a good D. We are done if opponents forced us into a shoot out.

I could see Judkins being their guy at HB

That our offense is going to take a step backwards and it’ll likely be run, run pass like the glory days of Garret. Can’t wait.
It's not going to be a modern offense for sure, unless he completely changes his scheme.

Yes, no more outscoring the opponents, more close games where we better have a strong defense or we will not have a chance.

Agree, wide receiver is looking unlikely if he runs our offense. When he was first hired by the Jets, they used their 2 1st rd picks on a LT and a Center. Think drafting a high Offensive lineman could be in play.

His Dad........Mardy Ball

Coaching philosophy and legacy

[edit]
During his head coaching tenure, Schottenheimer's coaching strategy became known as Martyball. It emphasized a strong running game, a passing game that limited turnovers, and an aggressive defense. A conservative style, it was criticized for its blandness and it prevented Schottenheimer from winning big games, because he consistently played not to lose.[3][63][64] While Schottenheimer's teams won eight division titles and made the playoffs 13 times in his 21 seasons, they never reached the Super Bowl. His three AFC championship game appearances all ended in defeat and after losing his third AFC Championship, Schottenheimer's final five playoff runs resulted in first-round exits for his teams.[63][65][40]

I think this is why some are saying he may be a better HC than coordinator

At Bill Cowher’s Hall of Fame induction in 2021, Cowher said of Schottenheimer’s legacy and impact on the NFL: "He was a master motivator, a stickler for detail and for him, it all started with preparation. This man has not only influenced the game, but he’s influenced anybody who has ever played for him, coached with him or coached against him, and I speak on behalf of many: Thank you coach, you did so much for so many, for so long. One day you will be in the Hall of Fame

If we are being honest this is probably the best type offense for Dak........

No idea if it's true or not, but Belt was claiming BS wanted to go in more of the Shanahan-style direction the last couple of years but was met with pushback.

We do have to remember that the O was #1 in the league in 2023 with him and Mike.

I think the description of his father is exactly what we should expect, unless his son has evolved and will bring in more modern concepts to his scheme. With Carroll now off the board, I am expecting him to get the job. Don't like the choice at all, but that is their decision.

I have heard the same thing, all we can do is have an open mind, maybe he will surprise us.

Schottemheimer has been an offensive coordinator since the George W. Bush administration. His offenses have been similar every time, and they've never been that good. Lots of run plays, mostly inside zone (which is the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" of modern NFL football).

In New York, he tried to hide Mark Sanchez with lots of power running, which arguably worked. But Darelle Revis and Bart Scott and friends were doing the heavy lifting for that team.

In St. Louis (yeah, it's been a minute), he called some Jeff Fisher ball. Didn't work well.

In Seattle, he famously took crap for not letting Russ cook, which in hindsight was probably the correct strategy.

His best trait seems to be hiding limited QBs behind lots of dive plays, which some fans here can definitely appreciate. But he's never really elevated an offense, and he's had a ton of chances.

Yup - I thought MM was a mediocre play caller…he’s going to look like Kyle Shanahan compared to Schotty.
