It's looking likely no trade downs will materialize at 10

Teams rarely trade premium picks to move up in the draft for non-QB's. As of right now, it appears 4 QB's are in play, in no particular order: Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, Lance. It is my understanding that Mac Jones is more of a late 1st rd prospect. where a team may trade up for him from rd 2, to get that 5th yr option.

If a team wants a QB, they are going to have to get into that top 5 range. The Jets/Miami/Atlanta/Cincy could all be sellers for the highest bidder, where Atlanta/Jets could even pull the trigger on one of the QB's.

For the Cowboys perspective, take the QB's out of the equation, which prospect is attractive enough to leap frog the Giants for?

WR: Chase, Smith, Waddle? It's considered another deep WR Class.
TE: Pitts? TE's rarely get selected this high, doubt someone gives up an extra pick at this position
LB: Parsons? Nobody is trading up for an off the ball linebacker
OT-Slater/Darrishaw? This is a possibility, but it's a deep class.
CB-Farley/Surtain? Teams may want to get ahead of us.

Think the most likely outcome is, we are going to have to make a pick when we are on the clock.

Probably right, but impossible to say...really until pick 7-8 happens.

Its the ole dilemma of who does a team want to come up for that we don't want to take ourselves.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a QB. If Pitts is still there I can see him being a guy that we ought to pass on bit someone else may think he is a key piece.

Same with Slater if you're asking me.

Honestly, the only guy I want at 10 who has a shot to be there is Farley (I wouldn't bust the TV with Surtain).

Next choice is deal down and focus on Moehrig, or if no deal is there as you suspect.....I would solve the safety problem above all else and just take him there.

This is almost a must if they don't solve FS in FA.

Let's see what happens there first, but absent a legit CF added before the draft....this strategy is a near must.

The desperately needed DT and LB help can be had later.

What about trading back into the first round and get another player on a 5 year contract. A defensive tackle, linebacker or safety at the end of first would fit work.

Everyone thought Mahomes would go late. KC traded up from the 20’s to #10. It only takes one team.
Yup went from 27 to 10 and only gave up a 1st and 3rd that year and a 1st the following year which I believe was in the late 20's again.

Right. If the top four QBs go before the 10th pick, then it's going to entice teams that want to draft a QB even more to trade up to make sure they get one. I think it might be a seller's market for teams that are not looking to draft a QB, making trading out of the top 10 easier. The fewer teams that want to trade out (those looking to stay put for the receivers, offensive linemen, etc.), the more valuable our pick becomes.

The added dynamic of this being a year when multiple players had the year off, no combines and judging from afar will be an interesting juxtaposition.

Wouldn't be shocked to see someone break the top ten that most had in the late teens/20's.

I heard the opposite from a guy on the local radio. That teams know a few of the teams in the Top 5-7 might not be going QB so they won't overpay to move up, thinking a couple could slide into the 10-15 range.

It would cost our 2nd and our first 3rd rd selection. That's a steep price. Rather trade up to the top of rd 2 and lose our 3rd rd comp.

There are several teams that need a QB in front of us. I would be very surprised if a QB was still available at 10. I think the top 4 picks are all going to be QB's, just don't know which teams will be picking at those spots.

Standing pat and drafting has ended up with a stud falling into our lap basically every year since 2014. This year doesn't look to be different. I would be very happy with any of Parsons, Surtain or Farley at #10 and it's looking almost certain that one will be there.

I'm not looking to trade up, I'm not looking to trade down. Stay at 10 and take a difference-making defender.

People trade up for all sorts of players, not just QBs
And btw, unless its a top 2-3 pick, they don't pay more for trade ups for QBs vs non QBs.
I did the research.

Btw
Trading up from 10 would be crazy expensive. Unless were trying to replace out QB, that is not advisable

This draft is very top heavy, many think there will be similar grades after pick 7-8. It all depends on how many teams want a certain player. I just don't think there will be a player in this class at 10, unless someone unexpected falls.

its Feb..lmao...we dunno what can happen in APRIL. Free agency in March can change many things come draft day.

I actually was reading an article ranking the safeties and it had Grant from UCF as best Safety by far over Moerig

I tend to think that there is a decent chance we will get calls wanting that 10th pick. I think Jerry should listen. We could be on the fringe of seeing a player multiple teams want available at 10. Pitts is a possibility. If Sewell falls he’s a possibility. A team might want to get a QB that they know will not fall to where they are later in the round.

Patriots will be interesting. They may want to make a move for a QB. Washington may want to trade up. It wouldn’t hurt us to fall to 19. But it would cost a team like Washington a LOT to come up to 10.

Outside of a QB falling to us, I don't see it.

Thing is though.....once QBs hit free fall....

Who is drafting near the bottom that needs one and wants to come up for one? Bears maybe?

Then again no one in the world predicted GB would deal up in the first for a QB last year.

I don't think it can be completely dismissed that we cant deal down from 10.

A lot is going to happen between now and then (watch and see if that UG pass rusher isnt mocked to be way gone at 10 by early April), you know that.....but still fun to debate, yes?

I think Pitts, an OT, or WR all allow Dallas to still be a trade down candidate, it's just not going to be the huge haul that some might have envisioned if it was for a QB.
