the bad part about bitttorrent.

Its mostly illegal :(

Actually there are a lot of legal uses of BitTorrent on the net but some software, sites and services do not promote the fact that's what they are using. In some cases, they do not want to promote that they are using P2P to distribute content for reasons such as concerns about privacy and the negative media-driven perception of P2P software and illegal torrents.

The media fails to educate the average internet user with the fact that BitTorrent is actually a communication protocol. Instead, the average user tends to think that BitTorrent is like the original Napster, LimeWire, etc. but those were applications that simply used P2P to let users share illegal content.

A better comparison would be between BitTorrent and web/http protocols (what browsers use to connect to websites). Just because there are a lot of illegal websites on the internet does not make the web/http protocol bad or illegal.

A lot of content services are starting to look more seriously at BitTorrent as a distribution system for legal purchases. The reason is that they can drastically reduce their own bandwidth usage and costs.

I personally like iTunes and what it offers and I am looking forward to their cloud service once they add support for non-music content.

I saw someone posted that cloud thing the other day. It looked pretty cool.

Not true. Many linux distributions are via bittorrent. A lot of game developers use bittorrent for delivering patches. There are also quite a few sites based on royalty free music.

What would be a fair statement though, is that the illegal content type sites are more popular.
