...and now it's one step closer to reality..!! "They should play the football final four on New Year's Day with the national championship about a week later."

Well there's now some big sentiment from the powers-that-be in college football to do just that! :D

http://espn.go.com/college-football...-exploring-neutral-site-4-team-playoff-format

The source said the conference commissioners also are eager "to take back New Year's Day." Last season, 35 college bowl games were played between Dec. 17 and Jan. 9. Of the traditional New Year's Day bowl games, only the Rose and Fiesta bowls were played on Jan. 2 (New Year's Day fell on a Sunday this year, a day reserved for the NFL). The Sugar Bowl was played on Jan. 3 and the Orange Bowl on Jan. 4.

The source said the commissioners would prefer to play the national semifinal games on New Year's Day and have the winning teams play in a championship game about a week later.

I'm for it, use BCS to determine a playoff system, knock it down to top 20, no more top 25.

That's ten games in the first round, then five, then a bye for the two best records, while four teams battle it out, then your final four, national championship.

hell, even if they do just do a top 4 playoff it would be a MASSIVE improvement!

you think that but they are going to find a way to screw it up i guarantee you, when maximizing revenue is the priority and not the best system to put out the best product, there will be problems

Plus there is WAY to much lag time between regular season and bowl games...

It usually show with one of the teams being rusty in the NC...

I think the playoff would eliminate any rust potential.

Get rid of the BSC first so ALL teams have a chance.
Problem is there are 120 division 1A schools in NCAA football, deciding who gets to attend a playoff is going to require some formulaic criteria, if not the BCS then something equally controversial will replace it.

I actually think the BCS would be a really good system of deciding (at least) 4 playoff participants. There's no system imaginable that would make everyone happy every year with only 2 participants, but the BCS's formula would be fine by me as long as we get a playoff.

Heck, I just think it would be nice to hafve meaningful college football games on January 1st. I remember when I was a kid, January 1st was a big deal. These days, except for maybe the Rose Bowl, playing on January 1st is just a consolation prize.
