"I don't consider it a holdout. I'm just patiently waiting," said Brown, who was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this year before new league rules went into effect, making all free agents with less than six years of experience into restricted free agents.
The Saints offered Brown a one-year qualifying tender of $3.619 million, which is lofty but nowhere near the kind of money the two-time Pro Bowler would have made on the open market.
Brown, who turned 29 last month, didn't get into the specifics of any contract demands, saying he plans to follow the advice of agent Ben Dogra, who is considered one of the best in his business.
"Of course I want to be there. I've been there every year in the past," Brown said, adding that he likes New Orleans, likes his teammates and likes playing for Coach Sean Payton. "But I've got to let my agent handle that part of the business. He's a good agent. He'll get it figured out.
"My job is on the field, and his job is being an agent."
