If this were another team... a New Orleans, or a Philly... heck, even a St. Louis, I may be pulling my hair out when/if Jason Williams enters the game. Teams with speedy backs or legitimate receiving threats out of the backfield would really scare me when he's in there.
But against the Skins, I'm not so worried. I can honestly say that I feel Williams is a superior athlete to any of the backs Washington has when it comes to "Man Coverage" situations. We aren't talking Jason Williams vs. Reggie Bush. Not Lesean McCoy. Not Steven Jackson. Not Felix Jones. We are talking about Clinton Portis and Larry Johnson... what is this, the 2006 Pro Bowl?
Heck, I like him even better in blitz situations. The guy was a stand-up 3-Technique in college... a STAND-UP 3-TECHNIQUE! That's Warren Sapp standing over a Guard and blasting the B-Gap, except this isn't Warren Sapp. This is an athlete blowing up Washington's weakest point on the O-Line.
The ONLY thing that really scares me if we get into a Man to Man situation and Jason Williams is in the game, is scissor or misdirection play-action with the backs crossing and running into the flats (i.e. New Orleans 2006). I just don't have confidence that he will see what's going on in the backfield, and he will be left chasing from behind.
Wade - IF Jason Williams is active, and you put him in on Defense, let's make it easy. Jason - You cover that guy no matter what. Jason - You blow up that Guard and make a play in the backfield. None of this "If this... then this." Just make it simple for him, let his athleticism take over, and let out playmakers do the rest.
