Is Jeff Saturday related to King Friday the 13th, father of Prince Tuesday?
It’s just a fact you are gonna get burned on your second contract. Most teams know this but they don’t care. You really can’t. Hope you get 2 or 3 years out of the deal and then let the guy go.McCarthy was set up to fail this year. I hope moving forward we resign some of our better players and not let them walk. I realize most of our players mail it in after getting a second contract, but we need to be a better judge of character on who we hand money to. We did the same thing in the mid-90s and that didn't work out well either.

McCarthy is just one of 500 people who could coach this team. The head coach just isn't important, just like curtains at AT&T stadium. Who needs those either.McCarthy knew what he was getting into.
He knows who runs the show.
In fact if you want to stay here longer, just be mediocre, look at the length of coaches under JJ
This seems to always be true. Just recently I think about Zeke, LVE, Steele, Dak, Lawrence, and now looks like Diggs. It’s been the same for years. Jerry falls in love with the dude, doesn’t care how he plays. It’s just a fact you are gonna get burned on your second contract. Most teams know this but they don’t care. You really can’t. But he for sure got set up to fail. Not only did they do nothing but they got worse and expected better results.
I hope Jerry and Stephen sell the franchise to a more football intellectual and financially and astute buyer some day , but McCarthy clearly has done much of the failing as well particularly when it comes to player lack of performance discipline and significant amount of penalties under his head coaching tenure to date.McCarthy was set up to fail this year. Yeah I’ve come to grips this is just what happens. The NFL career is so short. Your prime careers are your rookie years. When you hit 25 or 26 your best years are behind you which coincides when it’s time to get a new deal. Except for offensive linemen and quarterback it seems. This seems to always be true. Agreed they were coaches that knew how to build teams.Prime Jimmy or Tom Landry couldn't with the Jones punks.
This is so true. Many fans don't realize that most players underperform during their second contract. It's rare that you can look at a player's pre-second contract stats compared to post-contract stats and say he deserves every penny. It’s just a fact you are gonna get burned on your second contract. Since you brought it up, Jerry may have kept Landry if Bum Bright didn't make firing Landry a condition of the purchase. We will never know, of course. We do know Bum hated Landry bc he felt Landry snubbed him at some kind of social function. He tried to get Tex Schamm to fire him, but he refused.Agreed they were coaches that knew how to build teams.
They knew the value of building the trenches and didn't care about selling jerseys.
Tom Landry built powerful defenses the polar opposite of what we've had the last 30 years Bob Lilly Jethro Pugh Larry Cole George Andre
Then move to the next era Randy White Ed too tall Jones Harvey Martin.
Draft picks were used wisely back then to stockpile run stoppers and pass rushers throwing the ball was not a given back then and if you could stop the run you put a team in a really tight spot because the rules did not benefit the passer.
Tom Landry flew bombing missions in world war II he didn't have to lie to get his job the whole world knew he had nerves of steel and he would never back down to a punk like Jerry and kiss Jerry's behind like all these other coaches do no matter how much money Jerry had Tom Landry was a man's man the real deal and the whole world knew it.
Not a carnival Barker like Jerry
This sums it up perfectly!Since you brought it up, Jerry may have kept Landry if Bum Bright didn't make firing Landry a condition of the purchase. We will never know, of course. When Jerry bought the team, he had no designs on running the football operations. That's why he was willing to hand that job over to Jimmy. The egomaniacal loser that we know as "GM Jerry" didn't surface until after Jimmy turned the team around. Jerry made the error of thinking that the person who approves an idea is on equal intellectual footing as the person who thought it up. Jerry thought he was an equal partner in the building of those super bowl teams b/c he got to nod his head and write the checks. Its a tough thing for a man of jerry's immense ego to admit and he will likely take his pride to the grave.
