Carpenter typifies the problem with this team. He's a former first round pick and gets a decent amount of time on the field as a nickel back. His play is so bad that he really doesn't deserve that time. Not only that, I'm easily convinced that Brooking could replace him in the nickel back spot, since he's been a 3-down 'backer his entire career. But, we still keep Carpenter out on the field and he is still horrendous. And what's probably just as confusing is he really is not a 'Jerry guy', but instead a Parcells/Ireland pick. But I digress.

I'm still hoping Jason Williams will take Carp's place *if* he didn't miss so much valuable time in the preseason that he simply can't get the defense down.

I'm pretty much positive that the coaches know Bobby sucks. It's just that the replacement isn't ready yet.

But like theebs said, the comment Jerry made about Garrett being in the family portrait is pretty revealing. But then it goes right along with Jerry not wanting Dan Reeves here and the last-minute sabotaging of that deal.

Jerry LET his head coach do his job? If we have to wait on Jerry to LET him, then you have identified your problem. If Wade has to wait for Jerry's wink to be able to do his job, then you have identified your problem.

I think Wade Phillips is a joke as a head coach, but I still don't identify him as the organization's main problem. That distinction goes to the ole GM who is always firinemup!

The owner AS A GM AND FOOTBALL GUY is a disaster, and he needs to step aside, but he has the keys to the car and no one is taking them away.

I listed Wade Phillips' Playoff record to make an argument that he isn't the guy to get this team over the hump.

And Joe Gibbs is a better Head Coach than Wade Phillips, even when he came back the 2nd time.

To even mention Joe Gibbs and Wade Phillips in the same sentence is pretty crazy.

Wade may not be a great head coach....but his playoff record isnt the reason the players wont rally behind him.......as you pointed out....

Why all the quotes and testimony about last year, anyway? By all accounts, things were different this year.

I know you and plenty of people hate Wade, but do you really think Tony drops back and thinks, "Aw, Wade doesn't have a contract next year, so I'll just overthrow this receiver."

No, but I do think its a matter of how this team works, or doesn't work.

Its not necessarily just hitting in practice or in TC. When the Bucs run down our throat the first game because the team didn't understand their run blitzes, or the Giants run rampant on our secondary because the CBs haven't done much work practicing man-to-man coverage, there's a problem. When WRs are still breaking the wrong way in Week 4 of the season, there's a problem. When Every. Single. Play. its takes the offense 15 seconds from the time they break the huddle to the time they are finally lined up correctly with Romo running around like a traffic cop telling people where to go, clearly this team simply is not sharp.

Again, I don't think its lack of effort or the HC being a hardass, but clearly what the coaching staff is preaching is not getting through. This is a sloppy, poorly coached football team. They got away with it for a while in 2007, but we have been no better than .500 since, and I don't see it changing with this regime any time soon.

Wade wanted too....and did.....I find it far fetched that Wade had to go to Jerry's office and ask him if he could run a harder practice.

I mean....players even commented that training camp was harder this year then years with Parcells....

It may well be a poorly coached team......but for me.....I think the players have to be more accountable. Scandrick even said after the Giants loss that he thought he knew it all but now realized that he has to listen to the coaches more.

The Coaches can have all the meetings they want......have all the hard practice they want....but at the end of the day.....the player has to be accountable and know their assignments and keys. A high pass...a busted coverage...a dropped pass....a missed block....etc........its on the players....

No question, and I'm not letting them off the hook. This was a team that was good at shooting themselves in the foot even when Parcells was here.

This is just the wrong coach for these players. Wade needs veteran guys who police themselves and understand that every bit of work they do increases their chance of success on the field.

We have too many "just enough to get by" players on this team - Scandrick's quote says it all right there. How could a 2nd year guy POSSIBLY think he knew it all already? And remember a lot of these guys were the one's who were jubilant when we switched Parcells for Wade because they thought they were 'worked too hard.'

Well, this is what happens when you don't work them. They become a fundamentally unsound football team.

I actually like the way the defense has been playing the last two games. Giving up 24 points in 2 games is usually good enough to win them both and 7 points were almost given up by the offense in the Denver game (Romo's fumble).

I think that the way we treat players like Carp and how we don't punish the team for lousy practices and tackling in games by making them put pads on is a part of the problem, but not the full issue. Nearly 80% of the time this game is decided by what team passes the ball better and I don't think we have the Safeties or the QB to do anything significant in the postseason.

When is the last time a safety of ours has had an interception? It's gotta be back in 2007.

I'll also throw in anytime Pat Watkins has to play Defense we are in trouble. They said on the radio yesterday it would be a matter of time before he blew an assignment. Ken Hamlin got his money and ran. Our safety play is horrible.

Not a Wade fan, but its hard for any coach to win when the QB continually hands the opposition easy points.

Romo handed them their first td and took at least 3 points off the board with the pick to Bailey, although I guess that might have been Austin's fault.

The defense was pitching a shutout into the 4th quarter including a brilliant 3rd and 4th down stop late in the 3rd. The biggest problem as I see it, is the regression in the QB play. Don't think I can blame that on Wade.
