Did anyone see the Jets Chief alarming play?

Mahomes goes out of the pocket, just standing there pumping the ball and surveying the field with no blockers in front of him.

A Jets DBack comes screaming up straight at him ...runs right at him, right up to him, ready to just drill him.

Mahomes still holding the ball, flat footed....the defender sees Mahomes doesn't throw the ball away, so instead of just running straight into Mahomes at full speed, the defender just sidesteps around Mahomes and avoids touching him. After the defender moves out of his way...mahomes goes ahead and throws it.

What is this? I've never seen anything like that. The defender obviously was like " I can't touch this guy". I thought the defender was gonna blow a knee out trying to avoid touching mahomes. This is bad.

Did you see Jamal Adams lower his head at an on coming D Jones Seattle vs Giants . Very dangerous technique . Knocked him out the game concussion .
 
Its a sad sign of the times.... Seems like maybe this defender was afraid to smash a QB out of fear he will be penalized, or maybe even ejected. Or maybe he didn't realize Mahomes was still holding the ball. Who knows what the real answer is.

He would have to answer it, but if he did know Mahomes had the ball, then he should have made the hit. Frankly, the 15 yard penalty would've been worth it if he was to get called on it.

It used to be common that the QB's were getting drilled every week. That's why I have a hard time believing that the protected QB's of today would even make it into the NFL if the rules had never changed.

Even NFL network just replayed it...and the two former players who were on the show kinda laughed and raised their eyebrows and were like ".my man realized he didn't want to be the guy that changed the whole NFL season"

It could/should have been the hardest hit of the season.

There must be a behind the scenes mantra after Rogers got hurt: no more hurting star QBs
 
I didn't see the play, and I can't find the clip. But from what I heard, Mahomes didn't even look concerned. But my best guess is that he didn't want a penalty and fine.
 
Lol yea, I thought he was gonna blow Mahomes up. Can't believe he didn't go for the hit
 
The play is in the Jets/Chiefs highlights. I just saw it. It's really hard to tell. It kind of looks like the defender was coming so fast that all Mahomes had to do is slightly sidestep him. When you're running that fast, you're not changing direction at the last moment.
 
I recall this play from the game. They highlighted it then.
From the end zone view, you see Mahomes to a little stutter/fake that threw the defender off just enough to make him just go flying by.
