OLUMBUS, Ohio -- Now that the NCAA has finalized its ruling that five Ohio State football players who took improper benefits are suspended for the first five games of the 2011 season, Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel says he wants the same punishment.

On Thursday night, the NCAA denied Ohio State's appeal on behalf of the players including star quarterback Terrelle Pryor, reasserting that they must sit out the first five games this fall for selling autographed memorabilia and receiving discounted tattoos.

This is complete nonsense. After you go an entire season with this knowledge that your players did something wrong, after you guys successfully win another Bowl game, now you wanna come out and say "yes i should be suspended during the easiest part of probably the easiest schedule we've had in 5 years"

I hate what college football has become.

Suspend Tressel for the last five games of the season and no bowl game.

He's trying hard to self-discipline in order to keep the NCAA from bringing the hammer down on him and the Buckeyes. Can't blame the guy for trying everything he can at this point.

Exactly right. I'm wondering if someone at the NCAA contacted an admin person at OSU recently. Just to get them a heads up a stiffer penality was coming because 2 games wasn't going to cut it.

All of this over players selling their possessions. I hate the Buckeyes but this is ridiculous.

If Tressel would have come forward with the information when he got it, then none of this would have happened to him.

The players would have possibly gotten a lesser penalty as well. What did AJ Green get? 4 games, IIRC. So maybe not, but it would have saved Tressel.

It's on him to bring these kind of things to his compliance officer or his AD, but he didn't.
