A.J. Cook rehired for 'Criminal Minds'

April 21, 2011 | 12:38pm

CBS made a bold move last summer to shake up its FBI-based hit “Criminal Minds,” ditching two popular actresses from the cast even though the ratings were strong and the characters were well-liked.

Now the network has taken an equally surprising step by rehiring one of the actresses, A.J. Cook, and potentially bringing back the other, Paget Brewster. As part of her new deal, Cook, who plays Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau, will appear on the criminal profiling series' May finale before rejoining as a full-time cast member in the fall. (She tweeted about the new deal earlier this month.)

Very good move, her character does add to the human element.

I love Criminal Minds, .. I think because good always prevails over evil in the end.

Which brings me to the question that I have been meaning to ask CM fans here on the board.

Who saw the episode where some guy was targeting young boys up and down the Appalachian trail? Keeps them for a while and then kills them. He had been doing it for years, and now is injured and walks with a limp.

Anyway, he got away at the end of the show, ... which I hated.

Has there been another episode where he is caught and I just haven't seen it yet?

I need to see this guy get caught.

CM fans ?

Interesting that your take is that good always triumphs.

I mean they do catch most of the bad guys, but usually several people die brutal deaths in the process.

There's been no follow-up to that episode.

If there is, I hope it's not as traumatic as the Hotch vs The Reaper.

They didn't have to kill Haley. :(

From what I've understood, they've made a couple of decisions like this on the show based on money.

Rumor was they cut JJ and Prentiss from the show to save money for the Suspect Behavior spin-off.

Personally, I like the idea that the characters aren't too precious to have drastic things happen to them, makes the episodes a little less predictable.

Yeah, I know. I've read all about it. I've been watching Suspective Behavior, but I'm still not totally into it, yet. I do like Forrest Whitaker, tho.

It's such a testosterone-driven show that I think it balances out having a couple females on it.

If they want to make the show less predictable, then have more character-driven storylines wrapped around the normal profile-driven premise.

Prentiss final storyline was actually pretty interesting and something they could've done a whole lot with.

The storyline I liked, but disliked with how some of it played out, was the one where Garcia was shot.

I'm not totally caught up on CM, but I did catch the episode where they had the cross over to introduce the other team and it was just a completely different vibe, I couldn't get into it either.

I liked the crossover story episode...but the more I watch Suspect Behavior, the more it reminds me of Law & Order: CI where the goal is to get to know the criminal.

Of all the L&O's, I like that one the least. I'll watch it, but it's way down my list of must watch shows. SB is heading in that direction.

anytime a show makes decisions based on money it is just a matter of time. The old theory is that if it is not broken, do not fix it. A lot of good shows got ruined because empty suits felt a need to "tinker."

They figure out the guy/girl doing the bad stuff, hunt him down and catch/kill him, ... I like that I guess.

Not that way in real life.

I know, I agree.

If I was Hotch, the Reaper won. Even though I killed him, he killed my wife, he took my most prized posession.
