I knew nothing about this dude until just now. He's on PBS performing at the Beacon Theatre and it just started.

He's pretty awesome. I'm sure a lot here already know about him, so this is just a heads up in case you want to check him out. He will be on until 1pm et.

In this clip he plays with some dude who isn't so bad either. ;)

Crap!

It's one of those support generating shows. So it looks like they won't show the concert uninterrupted.

Did you see Dr. Wayne Dyer? That was pretty good stuff as well...

I wish PBS was this good all of the time...

I always watch during the push...

I didn't catch that one.

I'm thinking about pledging and getting some of his music as a gift.

Good stuff.

I'm not really into that type of playing, but I can respect his talent. I'm more into the following....

I looooooove the White Stripes! Did you hear any of Jack White's side projects, like The Raconteurs?

I'm not even half joking when I say this but one of my biggest regrets in life was not being able to see the White Stripes in concert. I'm the biggest White Stripes fan out there.

I've known of them for the past decade or so for a few of their more popular tracks (Seven Nation Army of course) but never really delved deeper into their albums until late 2010. The second I did I was hooked; the raw stripped-down sound of their music really hit home. It was like I rediscovered music. They've got so many live performances from concerts to watch on YouTube. I was blown away with what a tremendous live performer Jack White is. Needless to say, I wanted to see them in concert. Then they announced their break-up in Feb. or March 2011, and I'm not ashamed to say I literally felt an empty-pit in my stomach like as if someone had just told you the winning lotto ticket you're holding was a fake.

Anyways, yes, I'm a fan of the Racantours (love Broken Boy Soldier), the Dead Weather and looking forward to Jack White's new solo album. Peep this track from his performance on Saturday Night Live just a week or two ago. It's called Sixteen Saltines.

I can't listen to the song now because I'm at work, but I'm right there with you on not being able to see the White Stripes in concert. I respect his decision though. Too many bands keep dragging it out when they've got nothing more to offer together. He's still making music, that's the important part.

Every once in a while I come across an artist that, like you said, makes me feel like I'm hearing music for the first time. The Stripes definitely did that. If you haven't already seen it, check out The White Stripes - Under Great White Northern Lights, should be out on dvd by now. There's a ton of it on YouTube, here's a sample:

And of course, you'll probably like It Might Get Loud, a movie about Jack White, Jimmy Page and The Edge getting together to jam and talk about the guitar. It's really cool, even if The Edge is a giant tool.

Yup, I've rented (iTunes) and watched both of those films already, lol. There's another documentary of them in their early years of the White Stripes on YouTube. It's broken-up into segments, but you can pretty much watch the entire thing there though.
