Johnny Tapia dead

It's being reported on espn that Johnny Tapia (boxer) has been found dead at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Casual boxing fans most likely won't recognize his name but to real boxing fans he was a fan favorite in the 90's and early 00's. Johnny put it all on the line everytime he stepped in the ring. R.I.P Johnny

Rest In Peace Johnny.

He had his demons like everyone else, I can't judge the man or call him a nut. My Grandfather met him and told me he came across as a good man.

I knew Johnny Tapia. I have known him since his days in PAL. Johnny Tapia was a good guy to meet. Friendly, genuine but you new that this is how it would end for Johnny Tapia. It's really a shame. He had as much heart as you will ever see in an athlete.

Johnny Tapia was born to a father he never knew, his father was a life long convict. He saw his mother die when he was just a boy, stabbed to death. He was raised by his Grandmother in the South Valley of Albuquerque, just off Broadway. It's one of the very worst neighborhoods you will find anywhere in this Country. Johnny had three kids, I am sorry to say that I do not remember their names.

Johnny once said, "My name is Johnny Lee Tapia. I was born on Friday the 13th. A Friday in February of 1967. To this day I don't know if that makes me lucky or unlucky."

In those few words, I think you learn everything there is to know about Johnny's life.

RIP Johnny Lee Tapia

New details released in Johnny Tapia's death

http://www.krqe.com/dpp/news/local/central/new-details-released-in-johnny-tapiasdeath

New information about the death of New Mexico boxing legend Johnny Tapia has been released.

According to a police report, Tapia’s wife found him unconscious in their bedroom this weekend and it looks like the boxing champion had been bothered by a medical problem.

The report also says Tapia had been complaining of stomach pains the day he died and the day before.

Police believe Tapia died sometime after 3:30 p.m.

When his wife got home she found Johnny face down on the floor next to the bed.

Police say there was a bottle of Pepto Bismal near his head and a small yellow pill near his feet.

An autopsy was done Wednesday, but investigators did not say exactly how Johnny Tapia died.

Police are still waiting for results from a toxicology test and that can take a few months.
