The wife and i have been wanting to get back to TX ever since we left, 2002. It is more urgent for us now since we have a child and we want to be close to both our families as my son and his future sibling/s grow up. I finished my education a little over a year ago and was planning to make the move when the economy tanked. Fortunately for both of us we found decent jobs where we are (WV) with good benefits.
I like my current job a lot but we lost a whole bunch of funding and there are uncertainties as to what happens after September. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't like her job and wants to get out of WV and get back to TX. She has been applying for jobs like crazy in TX but hasn't had any takers. I also have applied to a few jobs and has had an interview but nothing has worked out.
Just by chance i heard about a job where we currently live from an ex-coworker at the department of education and sent a resume. I interviewed for the job last week and i got a call today with the job offer. Its a very attractive offer, definitely pays better. It will be a great experience and it will make me marketable in the long run. However, as excited as i am about the opportunity, it makes me sad that we won't be near our families for a while still.
Things aren't looking good in TX economy wise, being 30 billion in deficit and all. The 30% budget cut proposed directly affects the sector we both work in and a move to TX now doesn't seem likely for a couple of years.WV doesn't seem to be such a bad place to lay low for a while after all.
Sorry BP, you're stuck with us for a couple of more years
