It's not that I don't like the kid, I think he is a very good athlete and think he could be a good player in the league, but the league is being pass heavy and I think getting a bigger hitting safety is a thing of the past.

I am in the opinion that if you are going to draft a big hitting safety, he needs to be a hybrid cover guy too like Woodson was. (which should make him the #1 safety in the draft easy) Mays clearly isn't and lacks cover strong coverage ability.

Many guys have the Cowboys taking him and I hope to hell they do not.

Now what would you do. If Mays is on the board, but some slightly lower graded OL were on the board who do you take? Mays or the OL? (that is IF you were taking one or the other)

Usually you take the best available player, but here I don't think I would. Reason being, I think the type of safety he is, is no longer a usable asset except on select downs. (third and 1, etc) You don't draft a situational pass rusher, 3rd down receiver, or long snapper with a first round pick. I don't think you draft a one dimensional safety in the first round if that one dimension is run stopping.

Mays or lower graded OL?

Amen,I agree.I'mnot in awe about his size or straightline speed. This is football and for asaftey to have fluid hips is more important. IHe will be a decent player, i don't want him though, Thomas, Allen or Bennett.
