Are some of you so set in your own ways that you can't resist the urge to piss on someone who thinks differently?

I'm dead serious in asking this. Are some of you so conditioned to respond and attack opposing points of view that you cannot help yourself?

I can't help but wonder what prompted this, but you don't have to tell me so that they don't do it again.

I would ask that people just leave out Politics and religion. It seems like some want to sneak things through even though they know better.

I would also ask that the personal insults be left out. I would also suggest that it is not wise to attack how another poster raises his or her children as it is basically insulting that poster by calling them a bad parent. I don't know too many that would not get mad at being called a bad parent so try to keep that in mind.

I bring this up because of how far off kilter the Facebook parent thread got. People ripping on other users about how they raise their child. Also the praying/religion got out of line in that thread as well. It is one thing to say you will pray for someone on the forum, it is another when people are arguing between each other about no you won't pray for them and yes I will and so on...that is crossing over to the religious topics.

If you are a parent and you don't like someone questioning or insulting you on how you raise your child, don't turn around and do the same to the person. The "he started it first" excuse does not fly.

Let's face it, people just can't stand each other. In real life where we're forced into proximity by circumstance we deal, but you want to know how a person is concerning their ability to empathize and show respect, start any thread on the web and watch the total lack of consideration on display and how it degrades into a vicious attack-fest.

We're all guilty of being crass on that point to some extent, but all in all, the internet generation has shown that people have very little toleration for other idea's and viewpoints. You'll know someone's heart by how they act when not faced with any real repercussions.

Define "piss on".

The bottom line is that no one is innocent...

What some of you see as logical is not to others...

Think of that when you post...

You are all entitled to your own set of opinions... but you are not entitled to your own set of facts...

Logic is logic. There aren't different versions.

Seriously...note the tone of your own posts. If people post or open a thread, it really starts with them and so on and so on. But I agree, we have a tendancy to dog pile based on past history so-n-so might have.

There are a lot of users who I don't see eye to eye with on this board, but thats the way of our world. We don't have to like each other. If folks stay within the rules, its just going to be there.

By the way, Teri...very cute.

She is a spitfire, eh? Funny, I put 2+2 together and figured out you were Scipio long ago. She's an old friend I grew up with; a bit too much for me (sometimes). But she's well-intended. I also grew up with Adam. We were attached at the hip in grade school.

Sometimes people come around through conflict, too, though, especially if you're not instigating conflict on purpose. I try to take a more discussion-based conversation than an argument-based one. I find I have at least less enemies this way. A few will always try to thwart the peacefulness. That doesn't mean you have to let them. I've met many of e-friends through constructive arguments. It's the personal attacks I think I've (mostly) grown out of.

This is what beget the United States of America. This is what makes America great. The freedom of speech gives you a voice to support / defend your views and attack the views that you disagree with.

Generally speaking.

However there's an appropriate time and place for everything. This site isn't the place. If it were, threads wouldn't be closed and I wouldn't have started this one.

Having the general ability to do something isn't justification for being unable to stop yourself from doing it in situations where it isn't appropriate.

Moderators, being human, will always allow some to get away with more than others. I moderate at a hockey board and I freely admit that people I hate have a shorter leash.

The only thing I don't understand is how threads just disappear. In my exp, I just lock them.

Threads get deleted if the content of the rest of the thread is otherwise not salvageable to be a good discussion topic, or even worth reading.

This. You delete a thread if all the content is against the rules. No need to leave it. It's already offending. Just delete it and be done with it.

Makes perfect sense.

I don't know what brought this on , but I can relate . For all the good the internet provides a way for the inner jerk to come out in many people . I have always tried to speak with the same tone and respect that I use if I were having a face to face conversation with them . Many people don't . It is easy to hide behind a computer screen and be a tough guy jerk . Most of these people are very insecure and unhappy with their lives and they take a coward's way to insult others . Most of these people that are doing the attacking are close-minded and ignorant . When I first started posting on internet boards , my biggest shock came from people's lack of respect for other's opinions . These comments are not aimed at any person or group since I don't know the whole situation , but I think my statements have a lot of truth to them .

I have to admit though that there have been many times when I have wondered why a thread disappeared as I didn't see anything in it that was bad but I have a higher tolerance than some I guess.
