Just noticed something really freaky. Was just rewatching our 1st matchup with the Bills in the superbowl. Who is always standing just a couple feet behind Jimmy Johnson on the sidelines???? Jason Garrett!. Heres the strange part, was almost positive Garrett wasnt even on our roster that year, he didnt get signed till a year or maybe 2 later. So I looked up the old roster. Sure enuff, no Garrett. Now I understand that Jasons dad Jim was a longtime scout for the team, but still, Jason standing right behind Jimmy??? Pretty lofty position for someone not even on the team yet....LOL Whats even more funny is if he is eventually named head coach in the next year or two "which he will be" is that it will have taken him 17 years to move up TWO FEET!... Was he a practice squad guy that year??? Anyone know?? Jason has taken one long hard walk to get to the summit, he's just about there now!.........:starspin

Looks like he was on the team as a backup.
No... he said our FIRST Super Bowl matchup vs. Buffalo.

Meaning Super Bowl XXVII... meaning the 1992 season.

Believe Garrett was on the PS in 92 and became the #3 QB in 93. Can't understand how Garrett would have been on the SB sidelines during our first SB win over the Bills. Is it possible it was our second SB win over the Bills? That makes more sense; besides I understand Garrett has 2 SB rings (93 & 95).

If he wasn't with the team in some capacity, why would he be on the sidelines..

From his team biography listing...

As a player in Dallas, he was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships.

The link YOU provided only showed that he was a Cowboy from '93 on.

Yet you used that link to try proving he was a Cowboy during the '92 season... "looks like he was on the team as a backup".

You goofed up... happens to the best of us. :)

Read his bio on DC.com

In 1991 Garrett moved on to play in the World League and the Canadian Football League before joining the Cowboys practice squad in 1992.

He has been standing there every time I've watched that game. ;)

Only because they don't list practice squad status. I then posted the link from his DC bio that clearly stated "three Superbowl championships". I knew he was a member of the team, I was just trying to help out the OP.

Yep.......He was a practice squad guy in 92, NOT regular roster. Still, impressive just the same. Heres a practice squad guy always hanging right around Jimmy's shoulder. Taking everything in. Its like this guy was GROWN to become a head coach some day, our head coach. Subtle moves here and there throughout his career to eventually end up where he should be. This guys gonna make a GREAT headcoach in the very near future. Like ummmm, next season!!!
