Just curious, why didn't you wait for the later Skylake variants coming out soon? i7-6XXX.

Well I did consider it but a few things came to mind........
1. Didn't want to have to switch/buy DDD4 Ram as well.
2. Availability, although I know I could have waited anytime I saw the 6700K on newegg they were gone almost immediately or sold only as package deals.
3.From what ive read on benchmarks the i7 6700K isn't a huge jump performance wise over the i7-4790K, around 5-10%.
4. The money was burning a hole in my pocket.
5. I am impulsive

Yeah I figured availability, but there are probably a few different ones coming out later this month, I think S-class on the P1 tier, or something. I am eyeing the 65W TDP i7 when it comes out.

Here are some benchmarks of the 6700K vs the 4790K and the differences are pretty minimal.

I really think Intel needs some serious competition from AMD and maybe when they release their "Zen" cpus in 2016 they will provide that although I am not holding my breath especially after the {failed} promises of the FX line. Those TDP,s on the Skylake look mighty tasty but coming from the AMD 8350 the 4790K is a very good improvement TDP wise as well as performance.

Nice choice, I built my first PC around 6 months ago and I'm glad I went Intel on the CPU side after reviewing both sides. Managed to get a 4670 for 109 thanks to a Staples price match :)
