Games like this are so much fun. You know it’s a fun game when you get to post “Our punter totally got away with a helmet to helmet hit”.
Remember the first game of the season? We had five drives stall, kicked FGs and then lost by one point. This final score is what happens when you convert in the red zone every single time.
Think about how much better Dak Prescott executed in this game versus that first game of the season – then think about the fact he will be that much better (again) next year with a full offseason of coaching and film study.
Detroit is a good team and Stafford is a very good QB. Its amazing this team played this well with only one starting Defensive Lineman (who is a rookie at that). McClain went out injured early and Irving was forced to play the entire game at 1T. Irving and Collins playing so well over so many snaps is one of the biggest keys to this game – if not the biggest.
This game shows why Dez Bryant was never the problem. When he is healthy and Dak gives him the ball, you get these type of games. Dak is building up more rapport with him and realizing (against his nature) that Dez is a guy you can throw to even if you think he is covered.
Also I love Witten but I’m very, very disappointed in him today. He totally missed the chance to catch the pass from Dez and throw up the X in front of a camera. I’ll get over it before the next game, but… you know.
Some random notes –
Zeke doesn’t get enough praise for his receiving skills. The catch he made on the first screen was effortless but most RBs don’t make that catch.
Draft a kick returner next year in the 5th or 6th round, plus bring in several as UDFA. Lucky is way too east-west in his game and wastes more energy than the teenage girls who liked Wham in the 80’s. (Too soon?)
Its easy to criticize Brice Butler for not being a #2 (or #1) WR but even when “he is what he is”, he can be a very good #4 WR in this offense.
Brandon Carr has been forced into covering top WRs with Claiborne out and has played well – but we really need Claiborne back.
Gruden and McDonough were horrible announcers. When Robinson picked Zeke up and body slammed him its an automatic penalty, one of both said “I don’t see anything”. When the Ref called the penalty they said “That’s what some would call a tackle” and “That’s a joke”. Completely ridiculous.
