I believe the last one nailed for that was the Stones for copying KD Lang's "Constantly Craving" for their "Anybody Seen My Baby"? Both great songs but they settled and she got writing credit on the re-issue.

I dunno. Seems like music is held to some higher standard when it comes to ripping other people's works. One instrument out of a half-dozen somehow makes a claim valid? What if movies were held to the same standard or video games? Who owns the rights to FPS games? Who owns the rights to the underdog winning it all?

Songs are different enough, IMO.

Not sure what the Stones were thinking on that..they had to have known about that song. Makes me think they didn't even write it

Dj Paul of 36 Mafia had to sue Travis Scott for stealing his tear da club up song that came out over 20 years ago (https://hiphothiphop.com/travis-scott-sued-20m-by-three-6-mafia-for-allegedly-jacking-no-bystanders/

All Scott did was change it from "Tear da Club up, Tear da club up!" to "F* the Club up, F the club up"
Pretty blatant, Paul doen=n't need the moeny it was more of a respect gesture. He even said all he had to do was ASK.

That is true, it's a slippery slope. Seems like Doom could sue all FPS being one of the first...need some overpaid lawyers to figure this out

This guy apparently is in the industry and does a thorough comparative analysis. The two songs are actually really different when broken down to melody, keys, notes, chord progressions, et cetera. In the court of law when you can lose a case on a seemingly minor technicality it’s hard to understand how the plaintiff won this case. The influence is undeniably there, but the songs drastically different. Worth watching.
