Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse on DE/LB Micah Parsons: “I expect a Defensive Player of the Year type of year from him. Hands down. If I was a betting guy, my money is on him. I’ve just seen the way he’s come in this year, different than the previous two. He has the ability to wreck a game at any given moment when he wants to. The type of impact I’m expecting him to have is not only for the defense, but for the team is tremendous. … Just his mentality in how he’s attacking things this year, it’s much different than I’ve seen in his previous years. He comes in like, ‘I’m the lion.’ He lives like that throughout the day, throughout the week, just like, ‘I’m the baddest guy out here.’ He has shown that. That’s the biggest difference I’ve seen from him.”

This is what I’m expecting as well.

The team essentially had to ‘hold him back’ in training camp so the offense could get things done.

Opponents will not be allowed any such luxury.

DPOY is absolutely a realistic goal for Micah, especially with Chris Jones’ and Nick Bosa’s contract situations. I’d put money down on him, too.

But I wouldn’t mind the Cowboys taking a cautious approach with Micah this year. Limiting his snaps to a degree, giving him a game off if anything bothers him, etc…

We have no shot at winning it all with Micah not being close to 100 percent or unavailable in the postseason. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

I just fear he is going to get hurt. He's got the crazy legs sometimes and his impetuousness...but I wouldn't dare coach it out of him.

I believe you Kearse. Micah now has two seasons under his belt, is motivated, and he looked as hungry as ever in training camp. I can't wait to watch him start wrecking some offenses.

I'm so pumped about this defense. I hope it doesn't let me down.

Can we just let Micah play and see how he actually does in a game where a team schemes against him

There was a lot of DPOY hype for him heading into last season. I just want to see him maintain his level of play throughout the regular season and into the playoffs.

Well, yeah. He has finished second in voting for two years in a row.

As long as he stays healthy, it really is just a matter of time before he wins one (or a few).

Parsons needs to be moved around to edge and LB. If Mazi or Hankins can hold the middle then Parsons can come untouched instead of fighting people off going after his knees every play gets tiring. And double teamed.

It’s going to get tougher as he gets older and teams continue to game plan for him. Lawrence Taylor won DPOY 3 times all within the first 6 years of his career. He won back to back DPOY his first and second year in the league. We have Parsons doing so much he starts wearing down by the time we get to December.

There’s some fans probably hoping Parsons doesn’t win DPOY under his rookie deal, because they know it will cause his price tag to go even higher.
