Outfielder Mench back with Rangers, signing minor league deal

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Free-agent outfielder Kevin Mench signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
He will go to spring training with another chance to play for the team where he made his major league debut.
Mench was drafted by the Rangers in 1999, then played in Texas from 2002 until being part of a six-player trade in July 2006 that sent him to Milwaukee and outfielder Carlos Lee to the Rangers.
Last season, Mench hit .267 with eight home runs and 37 RBIs in 101 games for the Brewers.
With the Rangers, Mench had back-to-back 25-homer seasons in 2004 and 2005. He set a major league record for a right-handed batter in April 2006 when he homered in seven straight games.
In June 2005 against the Los Angeles Angels, he became only the second player in AL history to hit homers in three consecutive innings.
This offseason, the Rangers signed free-agent right fielder Milton Bradley and acquired center fielder Josh Hamilton in a trade from Cincinnati. There are also four other outfielders returning from last year's roster: Marlon Byrd, Frank Catalanotto, Nelson Cruz and David Murphy.
Cruz, who came to Texas from Milwaukee in that 2006 trade, hit .235 with nine homers and 34 RBIs in 96 games last season.

Yeah, that deal flew under the radar last week. I thought about posting it, but considering how few even read my Ian Kinsler post, I figured I'd let it go.

I like the signing, as Kevin Mench was a solid outfielder a couple of years ago. But after 2004/2005 he lost a lot of his power which is a big reason why we shipped him to Milwaukee. Hopefully Rudy can help him find his swing.

BTW, theebs, is that a FCP screenshot in your av?

No that is a screen shot from my Avid express pro and boris red 4. I am working on my 2007 review video and that is to remind me that if I have free time, go use it on that!! In the shot I am in the process of rotoscoping a shot of romo I am going to use in the opening!!!!

Ah, I was curious. Figured it was either FC or Avid.

I need to become more familiar with both. I'm going to buy FCS2 fairly soon, as that is a little more in my price range. I have access to a facility with an Avid system but it's in Denton.:

I went to film school in Austin a few years ago but have been working the 9-5 grind since until I can find something in the business that will support me somewhat. Ideally it would be shooting/editing short and feature length films. Right now I do what I can. I got a freelance job with MaxPreps shooting DFW high school football games and putting weekly video packages together. That halfway paid for an XL2 and a new editing station. From that job I was able to shoot games for GameTapes out of Seattle for FSN Southwest, a AFL tryout for the Desperados, and a couple of college recruiting videos.

I've done a few weddings (don't really want to do that full time) and some concerts (would like to do more). I've also competed in a few short film contests, not really to win anything but more to force me to get off my butt, brainstorm story ideas, and put it on the screen. I'd like to put make a low budget movie next year just to do it, and then with that experience go from there (something with a higher budget, where I would need to raise the money past asking friends and family for donations).

Thats great man. I am hoping to do the same things in a few years.

For now I am just learning as much as I can with avid, after effects, boris red..

here is a shot of the vid I am working on, just getting started and hoping to be done the friday before the draft.

#1 - Mench is from Philly, so at least he has a good reason.

#2 - For the Rangers, it's all about stocking their farm system and then developing their young pitchers. Guys like Santana are never ever going to play in the Ballpark unless the Rangers become a perennial contender or they suddenly make it into a pitcher's park. I think they've done well with the first part, now they just need to develop them which takes time.

Yeah, Adobe AE is another program I need to get better at. I have Premiere CS3 so I'm planning on upgrading to the full CS3 with photoshop, after effects, etc. later this year.
