Have any of you guys ever had a kid that made it to the pros? Coached a kid that made it or been around a local that did?

I coached this kid for 4 years...

I coached 25 that played college football, two close friends played in the NFL for about 10 years each. One of my players went to the combine, but he was to short at 6' to play OL in the NFL. I believe he did 36 reps in the bench. He has become an excellent football coach.

So, to answer your question, no....I never coached a player that played in the NFL.

You have contributed a lot Ranch. Funny how even when you step away the "Coach" never goes away.

Little back story on BJ. He started out playing Baseball as it was a passion of his Grandfathers. He was once responsible for a triple on his own. He caught a line drive and tagged a kid trying to go back to second. Then the threw a perfect strike to home plate to catch the runner trying to score.

We went to his house in the fall and ask him to try football. He refused at first and one of his friends on the team talked him into it. We started him out at LB and he sat in the end zone and cried big crocodile tears for 5 mins. I told him if I let you run the ball once will you go back as we were scrimmaging an older team that day ( Next level up older kids) because this team had promise and we wanted to see where we stood.

He said "Yes sir" and the next play was a 57yd TD Emmons to the house.

He never played LB again on any level......:)

I once taught a nephew of mine to puke out his nose but he grew up to be a waste of space so I guess that doesn't meet the criteria.

Former Dallas O-lineman Kelvin Garmon was from my neighborhood. I played soccer against him when we were little. He was like 5'10" 200lbs at like age 9 or 10, so he was a monster compared to us regular 70-80lb weaklings. He couldn't play for shoot but he was scary and his mom would scream from the bleachers all game long. "Come on, Kelvin! Get the ball Kelvin! Run Kelvin!" She was loud and supportive. He was a grade ahead of me at Haltom High School.

Lance Dunbar and also went to Haltom High School (years after me).

Just checked wiki and found out that that O-linmen that the Eagles drafted (soemthing Vaitai) went to Haltom High also.
