MM and the FO spent the offseason talking about making the roster tougher physically and mentally.

This game is a good litmus test. Hostile environment. Primetime game. Backup QB.

This is by all accounts— a very winnable game. NYG are an improving team— but they are certainly not among the elite teams of the NFC.

Is Dallas tougher this year? Do they possess a killer instinct? Do they want to punish teams and take their lunch money? This is a good game to start proving it. Run the ball. Exert your will at the LOS. Control the clock. Stop Saquon. Get after Jones.

NYG will show up ready for a dogfight. Will Dallas?

I agree. Good summary of what's ahead. Skills alone won't get them a win, they need team spirit, grit and 100% focus. Our defense was able to hold two of the best teams last year to below 20 points, that is excellent. Let's hope they "were just get going" and keep the Giants below 14.

Oh, and honorable mention: Our kicker seems to be a sniper now. If that wasn't a fluke, he can win us the game again.

D is the key for sure. We’ve been leaky vs the run. Hopefully we get that shored up. Not forcing turnovers at the same rate we were last year either— though hopefully Jones can help us out in that department.

Good point on Maher. He’s been solid. Hope he can keep up the good work

The quality of the run defense would much better if some higher draft picks were used at the NT and DT positions. The old chicken salad/chicken manure saying applies well to the DL. Without stumbling into some late round ,draft pick talent, improvement in the run game will be hard to do. By the way, I agree, that was a great point about Maher. It will take a lot of made FGs to erase the missed FGs of the past.

Totally agree re the need to invest draft capital at DT. Unfortunately the FO criminally undervalues the position— do I don’t see much changing in the future.

If Damoan Clarke and Jabril Cox can play the run well and compliment Micah— the run D will definitely look better. IMO— LVE plays small for a guy his size and gets washed out a lot— though he is playing a bit better his last 5-6 games or so. Hoping he can elevate his game as well

The defense has held 2 pretty good offenses to < 20 points which in the national football league should equate to wins. The key to this week is offense and I believe we'll see a much more open attack that we haven't seen in quite a while.
we should fare well

I hope you’re right.

Martindale vs Moore/Rush looks like a mismatch in NYG favor

Don't know if I'm right either.
But I'm hoping for a balanced wide attack.
Of course intensity and discipline are key

I think Dallas has more to lose, unless the Giants FO doesn't believe they're a legit 2-0 team

Defense yes, OL maybe, but more mentally tough, zeke already tough..If dak were playing this wouldn't be question but given having a rookie Lt, backup LG, Rush at qb, still no Gallup, no Schultz, and Parsons being a little under the weather, Kearse out etc etc..will be tougher game then it should. its push but ill take the DC 23-20 given its road game and those NY fans been needing something to be extra loud for..will be tough.

#1 offensive key to a win, establish the run. #1 defensive key to win STOP the run !! do not allow SB to spark this team and crowd. overcommit to the run play 4 man line DJ is not good enough to worry too much abotuteh pass game.

Im moving Peters to LG and establish a nasty run game weve been missing for a while,

let zeke and pollard both get 100 tonight!! should open few bigger PA passes.

If both Zeke and Pollard go over 100 yards we win this game by 14+ points easily… but doing that against a solid NYG unit under the direction of Martindale without the threat of a dangerous passing game is asking a lot.

I see a defensive slugfest where the team that makes fewer mistakes wins by a FG or 2

they've done it twice before and they are missing Leanard in the middle just saying my gut if Peters is at lg

73-Peters-Biadsz-Martin-steele

i think that line can power the run game better then weve seen it in a while IF Moore sticks with it. stay patient

In the past I would say NO, but this year's defense is the DOG in the fight!

There's only a few Dawgs on this team, so that tough stuff is not for this team...they're finesse.

Really nice post.
Bob has also questioned the mental and physical toughness of this team in several past posts as well.
I'm curious to see if this year's team has enough of either or both to win an old fashioned NFC East slobberknocker as well.

Should be interesting.

The Cowboys for years have been built for the dog fight in the East division games. It’s the playoffs when the teams are evenly matched and coaching is the advantage or a regular season game when the talent on the field is even and situational play calling and coaching decisions can make the difference.. That’s when it counts. Tonight you will see a team that’s been running it and a team with 2 RBs begging to be used. Will Moore use them and stick to them if we open the second half being down by 3 or 7 and still stick with them. I doubt it…

I see Elliot wanting to eat tonight and hopefully Parsons is not actually hurt and it was as just allergies ( do not believe the allergies)..
