Wow. 250k pre-orders in five days? Personally, I would be really hesitant to order one of these without seeing it first. It sounds like the BN color Nook with rooted a custom Android installed on it. A weak hardware tablet at that.

================================================

Amazon does not readily share its sales figures, but much to the annoyance of Jeff Bezos, someone working for the company has decided to leak details of just how many people are pre-ordering the Kindle Fire. The numbers are simply staggering.

According to leaked screens from Amazon’s Availability Lookup and SKU Aggregator (Alaska) system, used internally for tracking stock, in the first 5 days pre-orders were available, 250,000 Kindle Fires were snapped up. That’s an average of over 2,000 every single hour, and if it continues, Amazon needs to have at least 2.5 million ready for launch on November 15.

As a reader with tablet capabilities at a nice price point, yes.

As a tablet with pretty low end specs that also has a reader built in, no.

Are you even up to date on 7" tabs atm? The Fire is right on par w/ any 7" tablet on the market right now.

I picked up 2 7" tabs this weekend. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and new Acer Iconia A100

The Fire compares extremely well. Add in the extreme low cost and it's far better, so I pre-ordered 2 for my mom and dad. :D

Right now to be honest...the B&N Nook is the best thing on the XDA boards if you root/rom it out.

B&N built in a stop gap where you can't even brick the device. If the device has 5-6 boots in a row of not being able to boot, it auto recovers itself from a local factory rom.

I wish more mfgrs would do this.
