In 2021 Mike Zimmers OC for Minn was none other than Klint Kubiak who is the new OC for the Saints. I would think that would give Zimmer a distinct advantage as he schemes to stop a Saints team that plastered 47 on the board against dreadful Carolina .

The key to me is the Cowboys pass rush . Get to Carr and prevent him from spraying the ball all over the Art Gallery to Olave & Shaheed , a more impressive duo then the Cowboys faced against Cleveland.

what advantage and what would you define as that advantage? Does Zimmer know the speed and timing of the offense? Can he make his guys match it easier? Will he know who the favorite targeted WR will be for each play? How does a coach get an advantage with new players and thinking coaches dont evolve?

Just curious as to how this goes?

It could work the other way too. Probably not the advantage it would seem on the surface, though.

I expect to see guys running around open a few times. I just don't expect our guys to be as dominant as they were last week, Watson is terrible and didn't give them any real challenge!

The advantage for Zimmer is having spent a yr with Kubiak as his OC you learn the man’s thinking as to what offense he wants to lay out to probe defenses .

For instance they were together the yr Zimmer didn’t make the playoffs and was fired . He was quoted as saying publicly “ I don’t know why we abandoned the run “ …you can look at film all night long but having the man as your OC you learn things about a coach you may use when your opponents clown the road .

I think it’s the Saints passing game and the ability to get edge pressure to effect Carr and his timing that wil go a long way . On the flip side the OL has to give a Rico Dowdle open lanes . The run will allow Dallas the ability to control the clock .

Quinn’s OC was Kyle Shanahan and there was no edge. We’ve been having issues with these type of offenses for some time and Kubiak is another one who runs similar offense so we will see. Nice test.

Zimmer has a reputation of having a defense that is tailored to stopping the Shanahan offense.

Is Zimmer a better DC or does he have Parsons?

Now dont get me wrong, i want to believe Zimmer has evolved and he was a good DC his first stint here, but Dallas needed more and he couldnt provide. Dont get me wrong, he was also forced to go from 4-3 to 3-4 and he did an ok job, considering what was asked.

Has he gotten better? Again i like to think so, but i think Parsons, Diggs, are making it easier.

Call it a push at this point.

Saints played the worst team in the NFL.
Cowboys did well against the best defense in the NFL (from 2023), and against a banged up Browns offense.

I give the advantage to Dallas. And also being the home opener. However, I will approach it as not to overlook any opponent.

Everything in that Kubiak offense runs off of play action (like all the Shanahan stuff), so stopping the run is going to be job number 1. If the running game gets going, then the entire offense is going to run well.

Stop the run, then Dallas has a good chance to slow that offense wayyyy down from last week.

I don’t think Kamara is the player he was before his boxing match in Vegas . Dallas should be able to contain the run . Can they get to Carr is the question .

Dallas got 102 on 25 runs against Cleveland . Going to have to do better then that on Sunday to open up the passing game .

I mean, Kubiak knows Zimmer, too. So where is the advantage?

As usual, it will mostly come down to the players.
Yes , I think Zimmer proabably enjoying the fact he has shiny toys ( no disrespect to the players) but combination of Parsons, D Law, Diggs, Osa and Overshown plus experience of Kendricks to scheme and execute .

You can have thebest schemes but execution also matters.
