I was really enjoying watching Kneeland this season. I really like him as a tough, hard-nosed DE. He plays smart football.

Oh well, 4 games isn’t that much in the scheme of things, I guess.
Huge for a rookie, though

Yeah it sucks. He was hyped a bunch and seemed to be living up to it.

Crazy how guys like Wheat and Golston stepped up when asked to play a larger role. Offers hope that when everyone is healthy they can actually have a decent DE rotation, and/or be able to use Micah more creatively.

something that seems a generational thing with the Boys is the reluctance to give young players minutes until forced to

Yeah, Wheat and Golston played solid against Pitt. Did their job and was pretty good at stopping the run. That is, of course, in large part just effort and being strong enough to play the run.

Where they have yet to show a lot is in their pass rush. If they can get to where they’re providing some pressure on the QB, then yeah, the rotation at DE wouldn’t look bad at all.

Parsons
Lawrence
Kneeland
Golston
Wheat

That’s not a bad rotation to have if they can just pressure the passer (as a unit).

I felt as if that was a problem when Garrett was here.

Now it seems as if they count on them a little too much.

no doubt we are forcing some rooks to play when they really are not up to it; but at the same time we are still not giving some players more minutes to see if they are quality or not. That is one thing that has to be constant; evaluating your young guys. Now I know in really tight games you need to play your best but in games for instance like New orleans when its very quickly lost, empty your bench and watch them play.
