im trying to find a kubotan instruction class in the san marcos/austin/san antonio area but having no luck. i really want to get my GF one but i know she would never think about using it during an attack if she wasnt trained, has anybody ever taken a class?

for those of you that dont know what it is, it is a very versitile self defense weapon that you can put on a key chain or carry in your pocket

Well, the good news is that you should have the market cornered to open your own "Dojo" if you can teach yourself (do they have Dojos for this?).

Look up this guy. He can probably teach her how to do a mean round-house kick to the head as well.

It is a very limited weapon all you can really do is thrust with it. So some basic knife stabbing would work I mean what else are you going to do with it does not make a good brass knuckle type weapon; if you had a long chain it be semi more useful.

From a martial arts perspective it is useful but limited

From the videos I just watched all they do is use it for is to stab and leverage a techniques that are used in a lot of martial arts it is most useful when you do something else first and then stab them. You can perform all the techniques with out them as well

there are a bunch of nerve techniques to make your attacker release you and any strike to the face, ribs, or sternum is a potential boken bone. plus anything in your hand that compresses the force of your attack to a smaller surface area evens the odds a little bit.

i realize a knife is more practical but the ones that fit on a key chain my girl is like "its so small its not gonna do anything but piss the guy off" and you still have to open it which is precious time during an attack.

A they are standard techniques already taught all they are doing is adding something in your hand to accentuate the action every strike they show is from a kata they already teach using a punch hammer fist etc. I done similiar strikes without the dam thing all it does is ad to an attack if you can not do the strikes well that will not help it just gets you hurt.

Nerve techniques are not always the best thing in the world because a you run into dumb arse like me and I do not feel a lot of them and if they are intoxicated they generally do not work well (yes we have a few ourselves)

There are better ways to learn to escape and not rely on something you may not be holding correctly or in your pocket etc that apply and are more useful in more situations. If you know those you are better off then you just add the weapon to your arsenal
