Lack of QB Pressure??

I'm concerned about our lack of QB pressure in last 2 games. I understand Cowboys aren't blitzing/stunting in preseason games, but I thought one of the purposes of the 3-4 was to generate QB pressure w/o necessary having to blitz--cause Parcells doesn't really like to blitz/stunt as he sees it leaving us vulnerable for the big play. Also understand SF triple-covered Ware but why couldn't our other Lbs, specifically Ellis (who was moved opposite Ware) able to take advantage of the focus on Ware and bring lot of pressure from his side?

Hopefully, Watkins (and maybe even Davis in his 2nd year) can play FS in such a way that allows Roy Williams to much closer to the LOS & so he can make more of those game challenging plays we all looking forward to.

I was wondering the same thing as I watched the game. Hopefully it's just because we weren't showing too much on D.

The whole idea of "constant pressure" every single pass attempt just doesn't work in this NFL. The rules along with offenses going more to more exotic protection schemes help nulify the idea that a defense can pressure a qb on every attempt.

Plus we cut our 2nd or 3rd best pass rusher (depending upon how you look at it) and pass rushers are difficult to replace.

I think you have to keep in mind,, that BP is not rushing Ellis like he will in the regular season. We have no doubts about what he can do in that regard. The question that has to be answered,, can he perform the other duties at OLB at this point. I think that has been the concentrated effort in the preseason. Getting Ellis reps to know where to drop to in a zone, picking up backs out the back field, etc.. not rushing, we already know he can do that

I noticed the no pressure too, good point. The big body and speed of Ellis on an actual call will take care of that, but there is still concern

The heat will be there come game 1.. We are playing basic defense right now.. I have no doubt about BP bringing the pressure this season. We've shown nothing yet and they still look good.. We will get to the QB this year, bank on it...

The point of the 3-4 is that you DO have to blitz to get pressure. What makes it so effective is that the offense doesn't know where the blitz will be coming from. It'll be there, don't worry.

We are playing a very vanilla D right now and the 1st team hasn't given up a TD. The D will be garnished w/cherries and sprinkles once the games are for real. At least I hope so.

I was wondering when someone would point this out. Most of the REAL QB pressure will come from the LBs and true, you needn't worry...it will be there. BP has made soem very good additions who are all around good LBs and I can't think of one who can't rush effectively...even Singleton.

The weakness of this defense is going to be QB pressure... If we get 40 I'll be thrilled. Thank God our corners can cover and we have some depth there.

I think we got decent pressure last night without blitzing, but the times we did resulted in either a sack or a forced throw.

Its the NFL you cant totally dominate a team. No points against the 1st team D. But you complain in the matter they did that. Simply amazing. What if we had 10 sacks and let 28 points be scored, then I have a concern about the points being allowed.

Geez you can't win with some people.

That's a good point.

I'd much rather have them be solid against the run than have 50 sacks.

Again, this secondary is darned good-- especially with Watkins out there.

The pass rush can be "good" but it won't be a 50 sack defense.

I've been concerned about our lack of pass rush since Haley retired. However I do think this group will be the best we have had in many years and should do an above average job getting more pressures.

I feel nothing will change this year. Zimmer will come up with assinine blitz schemes that result in TDs for the other team and we will fail to rush the QB in most of the games.

Ware needs to develop some rush moves quickly and Zimmer needs a lesson in blitz schemes.

Yeah the only moves I have seen Ware use is his speed rush and his bull rush, which have resulted in no sacks.

The D is vanilla guys we are not showing anything until the Jaguars.
