Lack of run game

It's not the o-lines fault they currently rank 8th in run block rate. That's the upper half of the league. Shows you how bad the Jones boys mishandled the running back situation. After the GB game the two biggest needs were stopping the run and establishing a better run game. So far the Jones boys have surprisingly failed miserably.
There were plenty of good free agent backs this year in the market they could have went after. They didn't draft one either. Instead they go with past his prime Zeke, Deuce, Dowdle and a washed up Cook. They couldn't have screwed this up any worse.

I don't know how the Cowboys can rank 8th in run block rate. They are awful. Just look at the results. The Cowboys are tied for 24th in the league in yards per carry at 3.7. That's not good.

I think it part the players and part the coaches. Since Dez left, the Cowboys have been terrible blocking at the perimeter. Noah Brown was the only guy who could block and he is gone. Tolbert and Brooks are awful run blockers. Cooks is too small for that role. This is a problem the coaches have not fixed. Watching NO get a blocker on every defender and hold their blocks without holding is what the Cowboys should be coaching. This is why we can't run those WR screens.

Of course that's just part of the problem. The other problems are our RBs are too slow to get outside even if there is good blocking, and the OL struggles as well.

Watching Atlanta push the Eagles defensive line around last night made me wonder if they will run for 300 yards against Dallas when they play mid-season.

This is how they wanted it, so this is how it'll be!!! Why have one good runner who will eventually cost you big money like Zeke did, we don't want that problem so let's get 3 RB's to do the job

Something isn’t right with this stat line…24th is surprisingly higher than I’d thought. We should be ranked 32nd. Who could possibly be worse than this incomprehensibly bad RB by committee group? I’m genuinely curious.

Nonetheless, stop blaming the o-line here. It’s taken a step back from last year, not that it was all that great but, it’s not the problem here (far from it actually).

When you look at the RB line up:

Elliott
Dowdle
Cook
Vaughn

What DT/LB/DE is going to fear that? All defensive players in the league laugh at that abysmal lineup. Of course they only average “3.7 yards carry.” They arent fast, they aren’t elusive, they aren’t jukers, they aren’t plowers. They’re just meddling.

This team is hopeless.

Our running back group has gone from average to worse and is now pathetic. Dowdle isn't the answer and Zeke is complimentary at best.

Why did they insist upon running Deuce as much as they did. Just poor decisions all the way around. Time to put him on the PS and promote Cook.
Can't be any worse.

I'd let Luepke get some RB snaps.

Zeke has next to nothing left, Deuce looks like he's never taken a hand off before, and Rico is ok but man he goes down easily.

Maybe we have an Alstott or Hillis on the roster and we're missing it.

The Jones over corrected.

They made the mistake of paying a RB a massive deal (Zeke).

They then over corrected and refuse to even throw any decent assets at the position.

Other than Deuce, who was 100% drafted to be a utility type player, the last RB drafted was Tony Pollard. That was 6 years ago.

That’s not often enough. They should be drafting a RB in the 2-4 round range every 3 years or so to keep an influx of fresh legs and youth at the position.

I would even be fine with a late first at a RB.

You just don’t want to use high first rounders on a RB and you don’t want to pay RB’s massive top end deals if they have a lot of wear and tear.
